We stopped here while traveling for lunch. They serve breakfast all day, so I decided to have steak and eggs. The food was ok. The home fries were not fresh off the grill, think they were fried. Service was terrible. Had a young blond waitress that could have cared less about serving her customers. There was a male waiter going around taking care of his and her customers. The bathrooms are in a closet, cant even turn around in them. Very outdated. Nearby Gardiner and Hallowell have several other dining options that are similar in price with much better quality of food and atmosphere.

This was the 1st place we stopped for lunch coming from out of state as it's a favorite for home style cooking. The menu is basic with excellent flavors & many choices. One can see the Kennebec River past the '50's drive in style parking in the front of the restaurant. Desserts are just like "what Mom Made" in the '50's! We had the best seafood chowder, simply the best!

The service was as bad as the food! Hair in my husbands orange Juice and cold omelet. We ordered will done home fries and they where not even cooked. My son did enjoy his chocolate chip pancakes (I could have made him them at home) but his sausage was the worst he has ever tasted. All in all it was not worth the $18. It is so sad that we did not have good service. Please don't waste you time or money.

It’s hard to believe that the world has missed the Hi Hat Pancake House in Farmingdale! TripAdvisor had only one review. The Hi Hat has been here for more than 40 years as advertised on the backs of the waitress’ uniform shirts.

This was a nostalgic trip as I had lived in Farmingdale back in the 1950s. Back then this location was the site of a drive-in restaurant typical of the type found at that time. They fell on hard times and the site reopened in 1972 as the Hi Hat.

It was Sunday morning and the place was packed with local people. But we had no trouble getting seated. A blackboard advertised the daily specials and the menu offered an abundant choice of the usual breakfast choices.

One warning: I believe they only accept cash. They close around 2 pm. I can’t find their web site, but they have an exciting presence on Facebook.

The breakfast was excellent. Great coffee with the waitress keeping the cups filled. We would unconditionally recommend this undiscovered spot for a great breakfast surrounded by real down-Mainers! Ayy Yahh.
