“New Year's Eve at wokefield park and a stay over”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2014

We went to this venue last year for NYE celebrations and it was very good with a James Bond theme everything was really great with a large number of people attending so the . Atmosphere was excellent too.and the food was amazing So decided to go this NYE too the theme being narnia we arrived early as we had also booked a room for the night . So at 7pm went down to enjoy the evening , we had to walk through a make shift wardrobe with a glass of bubbly very nice and after that well the rest was a. Bit of a let down not many people attended and the food was a real let down it be honest everyone was moaning about the fatty meat which I could not cut let alone eat anthem rest was just poor after last year the difference was quite noticeable and that was it average disco nothing exciting and as for narnia well if it wasn't for a few people dressing up it would of been the same as being in any disco anywhere .the room was fine with a comfy bed. It the only thing wrong was the floor in the room there wasn't 1 inch you could tread on without it cracking very strange. Breakfast was Good and was served till 1pm no complaints and with 1pm check out that was the best bit .maybe look for a new place to ring in the new year next time round .

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely and quiet as it is in the country side.

We booked in for an overnight stay not realising that this is a substantial business, conference and golf centre. Finding the entrance was tricky as each part of the complex has its own reception and entrance. Once located parking was tricky as the complex is very busy with business and hotel guests apart from the golfers.

Very modern buildings and facilities with an efficient reception - once you found it. Central concourse enables you to get your bearings quickly and the rooms and restaurant are neat and tidy. The older buildings are worth seeing although you need to be a bit cheeky and just wander around them. Mostly used for conferences they seemed empty and open for a late afternoon exploration. Unfortunately many of the original features have been destroyed or disfigured which is a same, but obviously the owners don't share my interest in historic buildings.

The restaurant provide a good dinner - select carefully and check out the buffet before opting for it. Breakfast was hot and wholesome just whjat was needed before a busy day

Look for a bargain deal and its well worth it.

Room Tip: All rooms are fine look for a bargain

The best thing about this hotel was the price having said that I would prefer to have paid more rather than experience this again. The room was shabby and not very clean, the bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on and due to a Christmas party there was screaming and shouting going on outside for most of the night even when the party had finished, people arguing in the hall way I could not wait to get out of there the next day.

I stayed in November for a work conference and was really impressed. The facilities are excellent, staff are attentive and the room was very comfortable. Caution - WIFI and mobile phone signal are a challenge, particularly the further you are from the centre of the building.

Otherwise a great stay with delicious food.

Room Tip: Closer to the centre of the building for phone/wifi signal.

We stayed in this hotel with another family. There were 4 adults and 7 children in 3 rooms.

After reading other reviews on TripAdvisor we moved to the Mansion House because of the larger rooms. Mansion House has a wing attached to the main hotel, and a separate 'lodge' called the Wellington Lodge (hotel building) which is where we stayed.

The rooms were a decent size - we could fit in two temporary beds from the hotel.

The best feature about the rooms were the showers. Wow. They are a double shower sized wet room, with a large horizontal shower head.

We also used the minigolf at the hotel (£1 per person) and the swimming pool (free). We stayed in late December and had to drive to the swimming pool so the younger kids were more comfortable getting back.

We took the younger kids on a walk around the hotel - we'd bought an Ordnance Survey map at home and walked from Ives Farm (south of the hotel). It was a 7 mile walk through beautiful, flat countryside.

Reading is only a 20 minute drive - our wives were happy to do some shopping and we went for dinner one night at The Oracle.

Wokefield Park is a lovely hotel, and if you can book during one of the special offers, it's superb value.

Room Tip: Ask for Mansion House. Wellington Lodge is good, but a 2 minute walk from the main building, and 10...

Nice first floor room on side overlooking golf course, lights on dimmers okay but needed more light in entrance so could see what was in wardrobe. Comfy bed, nice bathroom and very quiet, good sleep. I think this might be one of the executive rooms. Check in okay and they had seen my email I had sent only a few hours before and taken into account my requests. Check in lady disinterested and didn't ask me about breakfast, newspaper, wake up calls, etc. Swimming pool okay but Sauna and Jaquzzi both out of action, mens changing room in bit of a state and no soap or shampoo in communal showers. Bar food was awful, and not a relaxing environment sadly. Soup was in a small pot and only warm, sandwich had ingredients missing, was dry and not tasty and bread stale, lady serving at bar didnt seem to have a clue. Trouble is its a long way out of town, I would be happy to stay again but eat before arrived, or order in a takeaway. As with other DeVere yes it is a conference centre and they seem to keep rooms nice but carpets, corridors, etc always seem like they need a good clean and shampoo. The card lock on the door to the bedroom corridor was broken, so a little worry re security but each room has a safe and dont forget free wi fi everywhere. For the price I paid it was great value, big free car parks, 5 mins from M4.

Room Tip: Overlooking the Golf Course, very open views, tends to be odd numbers, even numbers look in on court...
