“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014

Came here for our annual golf weekend from Fri 11th April 2014 for a 3 night / 4 round stay. We were a group of 12 and we all had single rooms as part of our deal.
The course is a challenging 18 holes and quite long although the yardage markers seemed to be way out.
The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and were always willing to get anything for you. The only downside to the food was that on the Saturday, some of the food was cold, and on the Monday, there was not the usual breakfast selection due to a delivery not being made on time.
The whole group enjoyed the weekend so much that we are already trying to book next year which says something when in the past, we have always wanted to try somewhere new.
We got a 20% discount voucher for the bar but a few of the bar staff were unaware that this was available and didn't know how to work it out on the till. Talking of the bar, they would be better using optics for their spirit measures.

Room Tip: Golfers should ask for a room on the ground floor overlooking the course to enable easier access for...

A bit concerned as to whether I had made the right choice after reading Tripadvisor AFTER I had made the booking. To my delight we had a great weekend. Check in was easy, as we were a little early we had a game of tennis and played crazy golf. All around the venue are free tea and coffee machines along with the Nintendo lounge where the kids played WII and Nintendo which was also free of charge. Nice to relax on comfortable leather sofas and have a coffee while the kids were playing.

The swimming pool was nice and warm, changing rooms a little small, the lockers did not work so make sure you take very little with you.

The evening meal was great in the bar, lovely pies and the nachos were to die for.

Breakfast was buffet style which was lovely.

The accommodation was brilliant, large comfortable room with plenty of room for two extra beds for the kids. We were in the Wellington Lodge not far from the mansion house. If you don't like walking between buildings and would like everything in the same place then this hotel is not for you. But we are used to Centerparcs and don't mind walking between buildings.

The grounds were lovely with an activity centre on site.

Already booked another weekend away as we were so impressed.

Room Tip: Make sure you try and get in the Wellington Lodge

I didn't stay at the hotel but did participate in an important charity golf day. Bacon roll served by a young man with no experience. Curry afterwards was very poor. Bar staff; inexperienced, not trained; = rubbish!

Stayed for a weekend with my husband. Arrival and check in was fine, we got a small upgrade as there were vacant rooms. We were a little disappointed as not staying in the mansion house, the annex is very corporate so no real atmosphere, but our room was comfortable, roomy and clean. Breakfast on the first day was fine, but on Mothering Sunday it was bedlam. There was no control in the restaurant. I worked for De Vere for over 16 years and have never known service, or lack of service like it. Unfortunately the staff were sub standard with no sense of urgency, too many customers had to clear their own tables. On both mornings we wanted poached eggs, both times we had to find someone to find the chef. Someone should be manning the buffet at all times. No pastries, no bread etc. the list goes on! We had a meal in the bar, the waitress was lovely, polite and efficient (ten of her at breakfast please!) but the food was bland. Overall not the place to go for a romantic weekend, unless staying in the mansion house. Looked to be a superb venue for golf, grounds are fantastic. Nice little gym and swimming pool which we used, and the free coffee and tea in the foyer is a nice touch.

Room Tip: Stay in the mansion house, not the annex.

Had a golf weekend on 5th April, 24 of us stayed over and had a great time. The course was challenging and interesting. Service from the golf shop was first class. The golf lads were helpful in every way and nothing was to much for them. We were up graded to the old mansion building which was great, ( the other building looked very business like and not really a hotel ) the bar was very quiet though so not much atmosphere for my group, we got taxi's into nearby reading which the golf guys organised for us at a deal price. The rooms were fine and breakfast fantastic in the morning. Never used the leisure facilities. We travel around every year with our golf society but will definately be back to wokefield park after a great weekend

Room Tip: Watch out for the 9th hole, i lost 4 balls !!

Staff at the pro-shop were outstanding. First class service in every respect.
The course is an excellent track, lots of variation and interest for all levels. I played in a large group on a society that had h'caps 9-28 and all enjoyed the course. On our visit the greens were being treated and this was disappointing, but I suppose they have to be done at some time.
Members very friendly, and clearly very proud of their club.
For those on a 'break' I will note that the hotel complex is decent enough, the bar is pricey but excellent venue, the spa is ok but nothing special, the dinner and breakfast both very good standard fayre and plenty of it. Expect to be surrounded by corporate guests on training etc.

All in all, very good indeed. Good class facilities with relaxed welcoming attitude. Thoroughlly recommend, an excellent 'golfbreak'.

Room Tip: If you want the Mansion House rooms- say so. Those on a 'deal' expect to stay in the exec ce...
