“Great mountain cabin getaway”
Reviewed 7 January 2013

This is our 2nd visit to these cabins. Both experiences have been excellent. The cabins are clean and cozy. The only disappointment was from our 9 year son who was hoping for a wood fired stove. The gas stove on thermostat control is much more convenient and keeps the cabin warm all night. Both of our trips have been in the winter. Great snowshoeing or XC skiing directlly from the property. We plan to return again in the summer for more Crested Butte fun.

We stayed for a couple of nights in the Sunshine cabin. It was such a wonderful vacation! We were lookng for something quiet and remote, away from all the typical stress. The best thing about the vacation was not hearing a single a electronic running in the cabin. The fridge only came on a couple of times throughout our whole stay. It was incredibly relaxing and the staff was very helpful. We had car trouble possibly due to the altitude or below freezing temperatures and staff was very helpful in getting the vehicle started.

In October 2011 I took a getaway trip with 2 of my dogs. I chose Crested Butte because I love staying in historic cabins and exploring places that are off the beaten path...it's so nice to enjoy nature and the outdoors and get away from all the media that we are constantly bombarded with. My cabin was amazing, so comfy and cozy. The cabin was perfectly appointed and had all the kitchen essentials for cooking dinner each evening. I really appreciated being able to bring my dogs with me. We had an amazing time relaxing and exploring Crested Butte and Kebler Pass. Crested Butte is a hidden gem in the middle of ski country. I can't wait to come back!

The Pioneer Guest cabins are classic and cozy on a beautiful property. This will be our "go to" place in the Crested Butte area. These well maintained classic cabins are very nice and have everything you need...and it all functions very well (hot shower / good water pressure, nice beds, stove, tables, nice sitting area, wood burning stove, etc). Outside each cabin has a nice fire ring, with plenty of firewood, classic wooden picnic table / chairs and grill. The cabins are well spaced and not close to each other. This is a very nice and large property. The owners really have things dialed-in for a great cabin experience.

There is a nice stream running through the property and good hiking / mountain biking from the property. A short drive to Crested Butte. We will be back.

From the time we walked into the Wild Rose cabin, we felt at home. When we left, it was like leaving home. It is a cabin in the woods with the woods and river experience, but all the necessary comforts. Matt and Leah are there for you, but they have anticipated all your needs--even a stack of wood with wood chips and newspaper for starting at the firepit. Nice not to depend on the TV for noise. WiFi is an added benefit in this cabin. Firepit on the stream is perfect. The young Husky became a friend who would come around when we were cooking.
I hesitate to share too much for fear that the cabin will become so popular that we can't get in next time.
Thank you Pioneer for the wonderful experience.

My husband had stayed at Pioneer a couple of times with my brother and brother-in-law (who live in the Denver area) for hunting trips. When I took up fly-fishing a couple of years ago, he talked me into booking a few nights there last year, during a 12 day trip to various parts of Colorado for fishing and just some relaxation. I was a little leery of "rustic" cabins with no TV/internet, but decided to give it a shot. Loved it so much that this year we went back for 6 nights, and it felt like coming home. The location is beautiful and peaceful, yet just a short drive from Crested Butte's shops/restaurants. The fishing is wonderful in the area (highly recommend a guided trip with Crested Butte Anglers!) We stayed in the Red Fox cabin both times. If I HAD to say there was any drawback about the accommodations it would be that the bathroom is tiny with a shower stall, not a tub. Comfy beds - clean - everything we needed, surrounded by such natural beauty. We particularly loved making a fire each night and watching the stars appear. I have never seen stars like that ever before...and the distinct Milky Way! Matt and Leah are wonderful hosts!! we will be back as soon as we can!

We spend 3 nights in September, the weather was beautiful, nice setting. We loved the evening campfires just across our cabin , in front of the creek. The cabin is big enough for 2. The place is also quiet and everything was clean. We enjoyed the whole area.
Greetings to Kitta (the young Husky).
