The Ruby of Crested Butte - A Luxury B&B

Reviewed 28 March 2011

My husband and I took a ski trip to Crested Butte for the first time. We are now planning our follow-up trips to CB since this is an incredible place for outdoors loving people.

Upon our arrival to The Ruby, we were greeted by Andrea and Chris who are a couple of the most welcoming people that I have ever met. We were given a quick tour of the inn and its shared spaces that included a downstairs lounge with a fireplace and movies, the hot tub and the upstairs area. A couple of the guest's dogs also greeted us. Being dog-lovers and missing our own, it was quite a welcome to be greeted by furry friends.

Our room was great; the bed was extremely comfortable and large. We both slept well throughout the week. The furniture was eclectic and proportionally fit the room; it is a relief to be able to move freely about a room. The bathroom had heated floors (yay!) and the bathroom's toiletries were earth friendly. :) We also liked the robes and put them to use when going to the hot tub after skiing.

Each morning, we looked forward to our breakfast created by Chris, Andrea and Cassie. The food was incredible! I have since tried to mimic the yogurt parfaits and egg dishes. None can compare to The Ruby. We also liked meeting the other guests before breakfast and discussing what everyone was planning or had done the day before. Whenever we needed a restaurant suggestion, Chris and Andrea had them and made reservations if requested.

When we rolled to the ski resort, we used the Inn's locker for our stuff. The locker included snacks, sunscreen and warmers; that was perfect! A local skier passed by us at the locker one day, looked in and said he knew where we were staying just by the contents. (By the way, the locals were very friendly everywhere we went.) Returning from a long day, there were warm cookies and ample types of tea or cocoa. We also liked roaming around the inn in our socks or slippers so much so that we now do it our house.

Since we've returned to our home state, we have stayed at a B&B on the coast and we found ourselves comparing it to The Ruby. Suffice it to say, we have been spoiled by The Ruby and look forward to a return trip. Thanks, Andrea and Chris!!

I recently planned a trip to Crested Butte CO for my 40th birthday. We chose the Ruby because of location, the breakfast looked wonderful and accomodations suited our needs with lots of couples. It was all we expected and more!! The rooms were very clean, comfortable and had nice amenities including large TV's, nice linens and toiletries. Not to mention the views were incredible! The common areas were very comfortable and had great games for down time. The hot tub was a special perk especially when you are sore from skiing all day. I would have to say the breakfast was my favorite thing . I looked forward to the breakfast every day and they offered such an assortment even after staying 5 nights!

The unexpected was the tremendous service. They handled everything from, the planning the trip to the the small things including dinner reservations, our ski rental, snow shoe excursions and to top it all had a bithday cake made specially for me!

As i said before, this was the best B&B I have ever stayed and would recommend to anyone!

There is no better place in the world to be than Crested Butte, and The Ruby is absolutely the best way to experience it. Staying at a larger hotel you miss out on a lot of the local ambiance and friendliness you feel a part of at the Ruby. Boot dryers in the entryway make sure your next day of snow-fun is just as comfy as the last. Absolutely everything is perfectly neat and carefully attended to, but you feel at home grabbing a drink from the fridge and a fresh cookie from the entryway, and then curling up on the couch with one of their blankets to watch a movie from the collection. The hot tub is great as well, and I guarantee you have never had a hotel breakfast as good as Chris's!!

Wow - what a fantastic weekend I had at the Ruby this fall. Five of us moms went away to celebrate one of our 40th birthdays and boy were we pleased with the locale we selected. The Ruby is amazing - from the beautiful house and furnishings (love the RUBY red cruiser bicycles they have for you to use!), to the yummy, tasty, organic meals they served (cannot believe Chris is a self-taught chef!), to the FABULOUS , warm, and friendly, and helpful staff (Andrea, Chris and Cassie - they make this place what it is!), to the central location (you can walk to town easily, even when it's freezing out), to the overall feeling of bliss- we loved it all and will certainly return to stay at the Ruby whenever we go back to Crested Butte! Go there solo, as a couple, as a family, as a person with a dog - you will not be dissappointed!

Our stay at The Ruby was beyond fantastic. Andrea, Chris and Cassie were so warm and welcoming, and The Ruby has such wonderful charm, it was like staying in a good friend's home. The attention to detail, from the harmonious furnishings and decor, to the fresh-baked cookies and amazing breakfasts, to the all-natural, absolutely delicious bath products, was spectacular. Our favorite amenities included a stocked beer & wine fridge, a great selection of dvds & games (for cozy evenings after dinner), and hot tea and cocoa any time of day. We were able to have privacy when preferred and also enjoyed visiting with the other guests in the two great rooms and during breakfast. Every aspect was conducive to making us feel right at home. The location was great, an easy walk to the center of town and the free mountain shuttle stop. The Ruby is by far the best B&B we've had the pleasure of experiencing and we can't wait to go back!

The Ruby Inn is a fabulous B&B and Andrea, Chris, and Cassie were amazing hosts. The Inn itself was immaculate and beautifully appointed with absolute attention to all the details that made our stay a memorable one. Snacks and beverages were always available (LOVED the cookies!), and there was hot water for tea or cocoa and fresh brewed coffee ready early every morning, and the on-mountain stocked ski locker made everything super-smooth. The gourmet breakfasts were so tasty, I only wish I could eat more! Probably the best part to us, was the dog-friendliness. Our dogs were welcomed with dog cookies in the room, and treated like guests themselves. Andrea and Chris cared for our dogs during the day while we were skiing, and I think the dogs had at least as good a time as we did. We will definitely be back whenever we visit Crested Butte.

We have stayed at The Ruby two times, have recommended it to friends, and will continue our annual weekend getaway tradition in Crested Butte for years to come. Chris and Andrea are amazing hosts and know how to make you feel welcome. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable, the breakfasts are delicious, and the setting is perfect. Little touches like personal handwritten notes to welcome you, homemade cookies everyday, beautiful roses in the room, cozy morning fires, and sunscreen and snacks in the ski locker do not go unnoticed. We LOVE The Ruby and Crested Butte!! You will not be disappointed!!
