“Very Nice Hotel Casino”
Reviewed 30 July 2011

The wife and I spend one night here in July 2011. It was the first time we had been to Cripple Creek in approximately 10 years. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The meal coupon was a nice perk as well. Our room was on the interior of the building (#410), so there was no window. It was very clean and comfortable. It appeared that new carpet was recently installed. The bed had a pillow top and was very comfortable. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. To make the trip even better, the wife won $600.00 on a slot machine in the casino.

Room Tip: Request a room with an exterior window.

Several couples traveling together stayed a few nights at JP McGills. The hotel is convenient to the entire town, easy to walk from one end to the other of Bennett St. Room rate was $81+ with Player's Card and we were also given coupons for $11 off meals per day (3 specific restaurants), a very good deal. The staff was very nice and helpful, rooms were clean and comfortable but no microwave or refrigerator. Free wifi worked great.

Rooms are so dark you don't notice the dirt til you walk across the floor bare foot. The air coniditioner is so loud you can't think. The elevator has a mind of it's own. This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

On June 27th, my husband, brother-in-law, friend and I stayed at JP McGills for Donkey Derby Days! Don't bypass Cripple Creek, and definitely don't bypass JP McGills/Midnight Rose.

The hotel had very contemporary and clean rooms. Each room we booked (we had three) was spacious with views of the main street. Each room was also only $97.07!!! The beds were incredibly comfortable! We were also given $5 coupons on meals in the hotel/casino, which we used. The food was fine (not phenomenal), but worth the value and setting.

Parking is free!

What does Cripple Creek have to offer? Mining train ride, casinos, fun little bars, and some really sweet people.

I was extremely surprised at the size of the room and how modern it was. The food at the hotel was very reasonable and breakfast was basically free with a coupon they gave us. Best of all is that we won in the casino. The town is very turn of the century and the day we arrived there was an antique car show. We really enjoyed our stay. You have to take the train ride if you go to Cripple Creek. I decided on this hotel after reading reviews on Trip Advisors site.

This was our second trip to Cripple Creek in two months. We had a king room that was very clean and nicely furnished. I could not believe how quiet the rooms are as we never heard any noise from the outside or the other rooms. Great location above the casino and friendly staff. Parking in the deck behind the casino makes for an easy walk to the room. Not sure why this hotel is not rated higher.

The hotel was nice for the price, which was very good when we stayed. I chose this one as it has an elevator to the rooms, where a lot in Cripple Creek do not have.

We got there too early in the day, and had to wait until 4:00 pm to check in. The room was ok, just a room. A place to sleep.

We tried to eat at the little food place there in the evening, which is a big mistake. They are too short-staffed, tried to seat us over other people who had been waiting longer, almost causing one man to start a fight with us...and then they kept delaying any seating. We finally got fed up and went up to their other property, which was being remodeled, then across the street to Maggie's for a great dinner. The girl in the cafe seemed to be new, and she also seemed to overstep her boundaries at one point. Another older waitress yelled at her. Not good public relations or customer service from one who has worked in that field for years and years...as has hubby.

The free breakfast...(a $4.00 coupon) was ok...we had a difficult time getting seated again, however, and I think I will seek out another locale next time.

The hotel staff was ok, seemed a bit harried, and after waiting all day to check in, we had another long wait once we located the hotel.

But it DID have an elevator, something I definetly need.

  • Liked — Winning a big jackpot, and the fact the hotel has an elevator and so does the casino, and the free breakfast.
  • Disliked — The cafe. Bad or zero service for dinner, very slow and not real pleasant for brealfast.;
