“Good room but no view.”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

No view but we didn't really plan on a view. We wanted the experience. It'd been 20 years since we were in CC and knew where we wanted to stay back then. Things in CC are jammmmmmmed together to take advantage of all the available area. The hallways in JP's are narrow and sometimes the rooms have dead spaces but maybe that's where they keep the ghosts. The beds are super sleepable. The bathroom has good counter space and the shower is excellent. We had a queen bed, 4 pillows, nonsmoking, wifi and lcd tv. No frig or microwave but the food in the restaurants and cafe is good. Be sure to sign up for a players card and they will give you $5 off your meal. The room was clean and quiet. We were on the 4th floor and the chiller makes a rumble but not too bad. I like JP McGills Hotel and Casino.

We came to Cripple Creek for a "hiking" weekend. Not just to gamble and we were pleasantly surprised by this property. Our room had a view of the parking garage - so not the best, but the bedding was very comfortable and the flat screen t.v. is a perfect size for the room.

The hotel is right in the middle of Cripple Creek so easy walk to everywhere. Can even leave your coat in the room as everything is just a few steps apart. We felt the $80 room price (it was April) was very reasonable and we received coupons for $10 of food - so free pizza at 1a.m. was great.

Brass Donkey (as this review won't let me write the real name), which is part of this hotel is a fun place to play table games and then head back up the elevator to bed! No one seemed to care that we lost all our money - but I guess that's part of gambling!

For several years myself and my 2 sisters stayed at J.P. Mc.Gills. we have never been disappointed with our accommodations Rooms are just big enough!! we always get a view onto Bennett Ave. Many mornings we have awaken to see snow had fallen over night, (right up our alley). What a view.! We have lost one of our sisters now but she will always be there with us on every trip to Cripple Creek. You will love this hotel and the food is great!!

Room Tip: Try always to get a room overlooking Bennett Ave.

We stayed here for our anniversary...last minute plans, "got the last room." It was a handycap accessible room (ha!) on the 4th floor. It looked nice, but the a/c didn't work, fan ran all night--loud. Then if you shut off the fan, the a/c unit on the roof rattled like it was coming down! When we called the front desk-at 3am-after not getting any sleep, they could only say that they were full, we got the last room, and they knew that it was a problem. WHAT! When we checked out, tired, they still wouldn't budge on a little bit on pay back....100 bucks too much!

** If you're handicapped, the shower controls are backwards, showerhead is not adjustable and there's no way you could make it reach you....be careful!

we got the king sized bedroom, and found a newly remodeled bath and the room was furnished with cable TV and the bed was very comfortable. The hallways are narrow, but for the age of the buildings it adds ambiance. They also have a parking garage so if it snows or the weather is unpleasant you don't have to get out in it.

Room Tip: go for the king size it is larger than the single.

Great location, easy walking distance to all the Casinos. Right upstairs from J.P. McGills. Park on 4th floor of parking garage behind the casino/hotel for easy access. If you don't have a player's card, they offer the player's card rate, and just show them the player's card before you check out and you get the discount.

We had a king room and requested an outside room with window. No problem with receiving our request upon check in on a Friday afternoon. It had a view looking across the main street.

We stayed two nights; for each night they give you a $5.50 coupon per person for a meal at either the JP restaurant, Dynamite Dick's, or the Miner's Pick. We used both coupons at the JP McGill's restaurant. One for lunch, and one for breakfast. Both were good meals.

Standard King Room is recently updated and clean. Good sheets and comforter on a king bed in our room. Small table with two chairs, nightstands, dresser with flat screen TV. About 40 channels. Open closet with hanging room.

Bathroom has single sink with lots of counter space. Tub/shower combo that has pretty good shower pressure.

Only problem we had was that after we came in from dinner/gambling our first night the security latch had somehow latched itself shut! Had to call maintenance, and he said it is not the first time it has happened. There might have been a little prankster ghost playing around in our room! But maintenance guy fixed it adeptly (he had done it before!)

All and all, I think this is a great location, nice room, very clean, and would recommend.

Pictures posted.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside room with a window when you make your reservation.

We stayed in late August with temps being very mild during the day and cool at night. Not so much for our $113 dollar room. It was very stuffy and hot. The window that opened to a wall, gave the room a very dungeonous feeling. The staff was friendly and the town is awesome. We did get the feeling of being watched ( in a ghostly way). Would probably try someplace else next time.
