“Small room, big fun”
Reviewed 2 April 2013

Stayed for three nights using their "Stay and Play" package. Room 5 is small, the bathroom is large by comparison, As noted in other reviews, quaint fits the room. The queen bed occupies most of the room and thank goodness for flat screen TV that don't take much space. The bed was comfortable and the quilt was very warm. It was hard to keep the temperature down even with the heat turned off and outside temps in the teens but an open window worked. The commode/toilet was a hoot. Good flusher once you figured out how long to press on the button. See the photo of this "quaint" piece of plumbing. Housekeeping was excellent and the room was clean and neat. It snowed one night and the casino kept the sidewalk from the casino to the hotel clear. We were there the week after the outdoor ice sculpture festival. A very nice extra, nothing like snow falling at night with the city lights shining on and through the ice sculptures. Thanks to a review we parked at the rear where there only six or seven steps instead of the 20 to 30 coming up from street level. Very nice especially with luggage and the office is upstairs. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The "Stay and Play" is $49 per night with some casino play and includes the 49 cent breakfast at Home Cafe and a food credit to be used for lunch or dinner at the casino restaurants. Overall a very good value and pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms overlook the parking lot and a view up the main street. Even numbered rooms have...

Booked a package deal for room and Steakhouse dinner~~the room was very clean and updated with new paint, flat screen tvs and renovated bathrooms. The rooms were a bit small but perfect for rest and peace from the casinos and crowds. Walking distance from just about everything was very convenient, too. Staff was very friendly and helpful. And the dinner deal was more than worth it!!!!!! Will be staying again on my next overnite!

Room Tip: Rooms are located at top of stairs, so anyone with trouble climbing may have a hard time.

The rooms are newly remodeled, small, but very clean and nicely decorated and still under some construction; they are small but very quaint and clean with up to date bathrooms and flat screen tv;
and the location is great, everything is within walking distance. It's an old historical building but well maintained. We would go back and stay again.

We enjoyed our three-night stay at the Independence Hotel in Cripple Creek. We got the room as a part of a stay and play package from Bronco Billy's Casino. With only a little time playing in the casino, we got $20 off each night of our stay plus free breakfasts and dinners. Our room at the Independence was a little small with only one double bed, but the bathroom was very roomy (no tub, only a shower). Everything was very clean, and the hotel manager was very accommodating and helpful. The hotel is located only about a block from the casinos. A hint for anyone staying at the Independence: all rooms are on the second floor. If you enter through the front door, the stairs are high and steep. But, through the rear entrance to the hotel, you only have a few steps to go up to reach the door. Call and get directions for the rear entry before you arrive.

I wish I could give this hotel a nice rreview, but the manager was less than accommodating. It was to be a family reunion and my brother who lives in Nebraska could not arrive the first two nights due to the Interstate being closed. The manager say confirmations were non-refundable no matter what. After much discussion she did allow him to cancel the first night. The next day the Interstate still wasn't open so he would need to cancel that night also. She said he would need to cancel the next two nights as well as she couldn't hold the room for him. My sister and brother-in-law and I thought perhaps we might travel to Denver which is closer to him and would give us more time together. Nope! manager said we could leave but we would be charged for the rooms. Remember this was the blizzard of all times in the area and something we couldn't help. All the stores in Cripple Creek were closed due to the storm. Casinos were open. Few restaurants open. We asked if she sold my brothers room if she could refund. Nope! Well, the third day she did sell it and we had to place my brother elsewhere. (the Interstate opened) The hotel is on the main strip in Cripple Creek and no amenties. Very moderate. I would recommending staying elsewhere. The St. Nicholas is great, we spent some time there and got a room for my brother there. The Grand is wonderful and I could also say that McGills has a great restaurant. A.G.
