We have a long history of staying at the hotel Monaco in Denver. When our daughter was a teenager, we used to book rooms when bands like the Backstreet Boys and InSync were in town and staying there. She got to meet the bands and we got to share the excitement with her. We haven't stayed there in some time and were excited to go back a few nights ago.

We asked for a quiet room and were given 714 up on the top floor. The woman who checked us in must have just started because she didn't seem to know about the food credit, or the in-room movie that came with our reservation. She was pleasant, but not very well trained.

When we got to the room, it seemed old and tired. The TV was a vintage Sony, probably about 10 years old. There were lots of nicks and dings in the furniture. The room was clean.

We went out to eat and came back to watch our movie, but using an ancient TV made it seem almost like a chore. We went to bed around 11. At 2:15, room 715 must have come back from the bar. The door banging and screaming and yelling was insane. At 3:30, after dozing off and being awokened several times, I finally got up and called the front desk. I think the noise finally stopped around 4.

On checkout, I told the clerk about the bad experience. At first, he was not going to make any adjustment, but then decided to knock $30 off our $200 bill. He told me the night manager needed to get on the ball and start walking the halls after the bars close. As we drove away my wife and I agreed that for $170 we effectively paid to have our night ruined and our day as we were exhausted. I plan to write the hotel about this experience. We were giving them a second chance, as the last time we stayed there my car keys were stolen from the valet stand in the middle of the night.

This hotel is in a great location - near a lot of restaurants and nightlife, about a block from the 16th Street Mall, and walking distance to the ballpark. The staff was very friendly, and the room was clean, nicely decorated (with colors that matched and clashed, at the same time), and very quiet. We drove into the city, and while hotel parking was prohibitively expensive, we found an overnight lot about 3 blocks away that was pretty cheap ($10/24 hours).

I used the gym (just a few machines and some free weights, but did the trick), and we hit up the happy hour for a glass of wine (wanted to get a free, 15-min. massage but they were all booked up - only one masseuse for an hour!). We got this through a Priceline name your own price booking, so not sure we'd pay full price for it, but it was definitely a good match for us.

We started a three weeek-trip to the West Coast in Denver and had the perfect hotel for it. A warm welcome at the desk, a clean and spacy room for four. We could discover Downtown Denver a few steps from the hotel, bring back shopping goods and go to restaurants by foot. Not to forget the wine hour in the nice lobby early in the evening. We felt welcome, and this is what hospitality is about.

Hello,

On behalf of the enitre staff of the Hote Moanco Denver and myself, we appreciate the positive feedback! You are very correct by saying that "feeling welcome is what hospitality is all about"! We strive on making everyone feel as though they are in thier very own home and not in some hotel. Thanks again for the feedback and we hope to see you soon!

Booked a good rate online, relative to other downtown options. Stayed for one night with wife and 2 teenagers and everyone loved it. Our room was clean, quiet and we really enjoyed the modern/trendy decor. Animal theme was fun too. The 5pm happy hour (wine and lemonade) was enjoyable.
As for parking, we used the street meters in front of hotel ($1/hour) and a garage down the street for overnight ($7), it wasn't a problem. Saved a few bucks over hotel rate.
Wife and kids' have pet allergies and we were wondering about a "pet friendly" label, but all was spotless(My spouse is very picky about this, it passed her test !). Staff was very helpful. Enjoyed the workout gym on 2nd floor, overlooked the street corner. I would stay here again, it was great.

Got tickets to a play in Denver, and got a great hotel deal on Expedia. The hotel advertises "pet friendly" and sure enough, if you've let them know ahead of time, a blackboard is at the entrance welcoming your pet by name! Dogs, etc were on floors 2-3 (I think). Since we arrived petless, they lent us a goldfish so we would have one in our fifth floor room. The maid fed it. We were happy.

The graphic designs used throughout the hotel were very pleasing. The building is old, but the total remodel was well done, except the floors under the carpets were uneven. We didn't mind.

We loved the appetizers served in the late afternoon - free - with free wine as well. And they weren't junk food but classy canapes. Very very nice.

The Italian restaurant in the hotel (breakfast there too) was terrific. Best coffee in town.

We would definitely stay there again.

I used to live in Denver and went back for vacation. Because of this I know the area and great places to stay. I choose the Monaco - stayed for three nights and loved it! The staff was wonderful - very helpful, attentive, very knowledgeable and always greeted me by name. The room was super clean, one of the cleanest hotel rooms I have seen.

Free internet - just join their Kimpton in-touch program, which took me 5 minutes and was free. Booked a massage at the Aveda Spa and was equally happy - very nice, clean and amazingly relaxing. I will be staying again.
