Four Mile House Historic Park is located very close to where I live. Take a step back in time. They host various events through out the year. The biggest is the 4th of July Fireworks Display, which I can see and here from my house.

I am a history buff so I love to go to living museums. This one is incomplete if you aren't there at a time when there is a tour. Otherwise the buildings are locked and you have only a few things to see. Their calendar has some interesting events that would also be a good time to visit. Check it out at http://www.fourmilepark.org/

First off, I appreciated clean restrooms. Next we were able to enjoy the museum with historic information about that area. In the 1860's this was the last stage coach stop before Denver! Yes, it is four miles from downtown.
It was fun to have the tour of the old house that does contain period pieces, if not original pieces from the family that had resided there.
It is a great place to park the car, get out, walk around, learn some history and if you want go for a walk on the Cherry Creek bike path!

This place is set up for school and day camp tours; however, the staff made an extra effort to set up a tour for our party of four.

If you have a young family take them here; if you want a place to take grandma and grandpa, take them here. It it totally charming. They try very diligently to make your stay fascinating and a rememerance of times past.
