I was somewhat ambivalent about going, but so very glad we did! We arrived at opening and joined a free architecture tour shortly thereafter. We enjoyed hearing about how Daniel Liebeskind was chosen, the materials used, and the entire process. Very interesting! The exhibits were great too. We got to see some of our favorites: Renoir, Monet, Picasso and experience some beautiful Japanese prints. We thoroughly enjoyed the works of Daniel Sprick - astonishing!!!!! There were lots of interactive areas for kids as well. We managed to spend the entire day there, with an hour lunch break. We will definitely go again.

The Denver Art Museum is amazing. It was good 20 years ago when it occupied one building, but today with its gorgeous new building (connected to the old one via a 2nd floor bridge across the street), it's one of the best art museums in the country. The building itself is amazing and there are lots of interactive areas for kids. They can try their hands at various art installations and techniques that makes this an ideal museum for any age.

In addition to the museum and its exhibits, you must visit both the restaurant in the North building and the museum store in the new building. The museum store is quite amazing. It's huge and probably one of the best museum stores anywhere. There is a smaller store in the North building that mostly caters to kids. We had lunch at Palettes and it was fabulous. The food is fresh and creative, quite fitting for the restaurant's name. The service was great and you can even sit outside on the patio, weather permitting. Definitely one of Denver's gems.

The Denver Art Museum is a real gem. I was amazed at the collection of meso-American art works and their display. It was comprehensive without being overwhelming and the pieces were exemplary to my mind. I was fortunate to be able to see the Gustave Dore, La Famille du Saltimbanque: L'Enfant Blesse, stunning and emotionally powerful. Also of note were the modern and contemporary collections and the Logan collection with my highlight being introduced to the visionary and grand works of Kent Monkman. I probably could have done without the importance given to late 19th century paintings that reflect ideas and thoughts that have since become outmoded and down right racist. That being said, the museum did address this issue with the public in several interactive displays. Arguably, this does credit to the museum and the curators sensitivity to these issues and instead of hiding bring about learning from the past. Probably this museum and the botanic gardens are the best bets in downtown Denver destinations.

You have to see this if you're in Denver! The building alone is a work of art. Great neighborhood to visit too.

This display alone was worth the trip to Denver. The gallery was arranged so one could get both far away and closeup views of numerous stunning quilts. Explanations and guide were unusually well written--and believe me, I have read hundreds of quilt descriptions, if not thousands. Bravo!
