Take the free bus that travels up and down 16th street. It's the best way to see what's there. Interesting outdoor dining; Horse drawn carriage rides; great place to people watch. Don't miss the restaurants & shops on the streets intersecting 16th.

Stayed at the Sheraton on the mall and had a great time. The weather in April was amazing and the mall is a great outdoor area to walk around and shop, eat, or people watch.

We felt safe the entire time and the free public transportation made it cheap to get around.

In ways this is the bohemian heart of Denver ! You can start from the west & stroll down to the east and return (or reverse). If the walk is too much you can hop on/off at many stops on the free shuttle bus. Along the way you can deviate down side streets to other attractions & return to the Mall ! On the way you can visit shops of all persuasions , bars , restaurants and get a feel for the different denizens of Denver ! You get all types , the loud Jesus freaks , the drunks & bums, the busy bargain hunter(my wife) and workers out & about. Nothing threatening as there is always a strong police presence but not too sure if I'd take the family there at night ? Depending where you park your car (or come by bus) you can spend a lazy couple of hours , stroll , grab a bite to eat and a beer or two ! Worth a look see in Denver.

I am down there a lot as I play at an improv theatre The Bovine Metropolis Theatre on Champa between 16th. and 15th. There is a lot of security, they keep the walkways free of snow, great restaurants and an interesting fun part of Denver. A must see. Walk the full length. There is also a free hop on/off bus that runs every five minutes or so. On a nice day…which is often…it is gorgeous. On occasion there are some rough types who look like they are on drugs or booze…just steer clear of them.

There are lots of shops and restaurants along the mall. During the day it's very nice and I've never felt unsafe. At night I have felt uneasy. If you are with a group you will be fine but I wouldn't go on the mall alone at night. There are homeless people but for the most part they keep to themselves.
