Landmark's Mayan Theatre

Art house movies, comfortable surroundings.  Great popcorn with real butter (or at least it used to be real butter, haven't had popcorn there for a while)

The Mayan consistenly shows films that seldom make it to Denver and in the process has developed a loyal following, this despite the fact that the seats seem to be as old as the theater and there are no clear sightlines in the place. It's all part of the charm. A plus is the fresh-popped popcorn and the bar in the lobby. Set in a funky part of Denver, be prepared for panhandlers as you come in but despite the seedy milieu it's not dangerous. After the show, there are a number of interesting and inexpensive bars and restaurants in the area, but here a little care might be in order after dark.

It's always so much fun to see a movie here.  So enchanting (and yes, it's old, but you can feel this history all around you!)  Plus I like that I can get an adult beverage with my films!  A+++

This is a great date spot! I would compare the Mayan to flying back in the old days. It's an experience in itself, to grab a beer and marvel at the interior decoration before your movie starts. It doesn't feel like a cattle pen like the big theaters where you are whisked in past smelly food counters and loud arcade machines. And they tend to show awesome movies.

See a movie in this landmark theater on S. Broadway. It's historic. There is a bar upstairs. 3 movie theaters show new films with independent and documentaries often featured. It's a nice way to spend an evening out!
