“Cool throwback Movie joint”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2013

If you're looking for large luxurious seats, don't go here. But if you're looking for good movies, in a classic (original/retro) space, then you'll love the experience here!

“Good art-house movie theater”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2013

Great, classic old move house with a Mayan motif. There is a bar upstairs so you can have a glass of wine or beer while enjoying a movie. Prices are reasonable.
Parking can be a pain in this neighborhood, especially in the evening.

“Amazing Movie Theater”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2013

This is the best movie theater for a classy experience. It's a great place for a date too! It has history, beautiful historic architecture, an amazing ceiling and feels like you are in a most unique & special place. The movies we've been to here have been great but the atmosphere is the best. You can have real tea with your movie instead of that hot, flavored water that other theater's serve. It is also in a neat area of town near first & Broadway so you can grab a bite of dinner before or after. I am so glad they saved the Mayan!

“Arthouse and funky...and drinks!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

I used to live within walkable distance of the Mayan, and it was heaven. It's a Landmark AND a landmark. The history of it is worth reading about. The sound quality leaves something to be desired at times, especially in the upper theaters, but hey, that's kind of the old arthouse experience, so I'm fine with it. It's not like they're screening Star Wars anyway. It's great for foreign films. I love that they added a bar.
