My husband surprised me with a stay at the Brown Palace. We rented a "Top of the Brown" suite. The room was beautiful. You have an office area, bedroom large bathroom, makeup area and a nice foyer.

The service was exemplary, and we were given champagne upon arrival. The valet and parking is not included, but it does include in and out privileges. I did not see if they had a car service, it would be a wonderful addition if they did.

There was a single hiccup during the weekend. The office area of our room had a smoky smell that hit you like a brick wall when you entered the room. Our mistake was not reporting this issue right away. When we reported it later that night, but it was basically brushed off. The smell was so bad that we couldn't even enter the office area.

We made the most of the weekend and had a lovely time. We will return at some point, and this time report any issues immediately.

The Brown Palace has a lot to offer the sophisticated traveler. From their cigar bar to their fabulous spa, the Brown Palace is a step back in time to the late 1800's. Nicely appointed rooms with marble walk in showers and up to date in-room technology; comfortable beds and high quality workmanship not seen anymore. The Brown Palace is unique venue for conferences and is geared to account for all needs. If you enjoy a glass if wine or a hot beverage as you chat with friends while the piano plays in a fabulous atrium - this is for you. Self parking is a pain but their valet is prompt and courteous - so plan on the valet service. Also, not really a kids place. They are obviously welcome, however the Brown Palace is geared more towards the elegant business type clientele.

The Brown Palace has been passed up as the luxury hotel in downtown Denver with the addition of the Ritz and the Four Seasons. Having lived in Denver for years and now travelling there regularly, if you want a luxury hotel that is not a chain and is authentic and charming, the Brown Palace is it. It is old but very well kept up and has so much historic charm. The service is fabulous and the rooms are very well appointed. On my last visit, we were upgraded to the Beatles Suite which was a great room! The restaurants are pricey and wonderful as is the spa. When I lived in Denver I used the spa regularly as appointments are relatively easy to get on short notice and the services are definitely good to great.

Room Tip: The Beatles Suite is fabulous and includes a juke box with all Beatles music!

We spent two nights in the hotel for a romantic getaway. Being from Colorado Springs, we were hoping for Broadmoor-level service based on other reviews. It was close, but a few flaws marred the trip. I'd ordered a rose-petal turn down service and chocolate-covered strawberries for a specific time on our check-in day. The strawberries turned up but not the rose petals, and we got back to the room about an hour after I'd requested them.

The hotel advertises itself as pet-friendly, but there are only a few places where pets can go. Most of the lobby is taken up by a restaurant where high tea is served, so dogs can't go there. There are three tables by the concierge desk at the side of the lobby where dogs are welcome, and that's a great place to hang out to listen to the really fantastic live music. The only trouble is that trying to order drinks and snacks is a little hard since the servers don't have it in their regular cross check.

We booked dinner at the hotel's high-end restaurant (see separate review of the Palace Arms), but the next time we visit we will instead eat in the lobby. The live music (piano player before 4, jazz trio/quartet during winter and summer between 4 and 8) was a real treat. We had brought several bottles of really nice wine and the staff was happy to give us wine glasses so we could go to our room, top up with our own wine, and go back to the lobby to enjoy the show. The bar "snacks" were very good and quite sufficient for a very nice dinner, and the combination of our wine (the hotel marks up their offerings by 3x to 4x, based on my phone app), good food, and great entertainment were at least as memorable as the fine-dining restaurant.

We had a pretty bad dining experience at the Palace Arms, and word spread the next morning. The staff was falling all over themselves to make it up for us, something we really did appreciate. Lonny in the cigar bar was especially helpful. He was mortified at how we were treated and told us that things like that just didn't happen at the Brown Palace. Well, they do, but the staff sure tried hard to make it right. They even brought us a doggie place-mat, water bowl, and food bowl complete with doggie biscuits out to our favorite lobby-side table.

Again, a few minor flaws are all that moved this review down from five stars. We do plan to return, and I fully expect to be able to upgrade the review the next time.

Thank you for staying at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa. We were delighted to learn that you overall you enjoyed your visit and we are very grateful to you for your kind words and suggestions regarding our hotel and staff. I will reach out to the lobby servers about the tables you mentioned and I will be sure to let the jazz trio know you enjoyed the music, we are very lucky to have them.

Please accept my apologies that your experience at the Palace Arms was not what you or we expect of a visit to one of our restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay at the Brown Palace! We went to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. We were treated like royalty--from the Champagne check-in, to the personal note thanking us for choosing this hotel, to the courtesy driver, to the amazing breakfast at Ellyngton's! The staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Matt, at the valet--concierge desk was terrific! They made us feel special.

The hotel is quite historic and a unique property. Location is excellent with 16th street just one block's walk away and good restaurants (Earl's-amazing!), a movie theater, and shopping all within walking distance. Valet is $34 a day but was very convenient to just leave the car and enjoy the hotel and walking to nearby food/entertainment. We had a bit of a situation with our room, but Brandt, the Front Office Manager, did an excellent job of quickly resolving the situation and exceeding our expectations with top notch customer service. Marriott Higher Management take note Brandt is a great candidate! The property has a gym across a breezeway in their sister property for guests use which had a nice selection of machines, free weights to 50lb., elipticals, and treadmills. The Pepsi center was a short cab ride away so good proximity to sporting events too. Great property in Downtown.

The Brown Palace advised us that on every Friday and Saturday they would have a jazz band playing 4:30-7:30 p.m. What they don't tell you is that you can hear it throughout the hotel all the way into your room. We had the door shut, tv on high and could still hear the jazz on high. It was worse then the noise on the floor of a casino in Vegas. At least their hotel rooms are more quieter then the rooms on the 5th floor of the Brown Palace. Will not come back here again.
