“Charm, elegance & world class service”
Reviewed 6 April 2009

What charm and elegance! From the music at tea time to the graciousness of their staff, as someone who travels 100,000 miles a year, I appreciate good service and value. I originally booked the Sheraton and changed my mind at the last minute because of some internet specials. Boy was I glad. The Sheraton down the street had broken bathroom doors and flimsy tissue; whereas the amenities at The Brown, offered thick towels, comfy robes and free wify with late checkout if you join the Preferred Hotel group at no cost. Special thanks to Donna, who works in the Tavern for her outstanding customer service. If you want a great value and want to be treated like royalty, stay at The Brown!

Of all the Denver hotels, this one has the reputation for class, and I'd say it deserves it. The room was comfortable, spacious, and light, with great amenities. The building itself is beautiful, and the location could hardly be more convenient for enjoying downtown Denver.

Many years ago I used to find myself in Denver fairly frequently and always enjoyed my stays at the Brown Palace. Last week my wife and I went back and the Brown lived up to my memories. We were very well received at the front desk, particularly when they upgraded us to a fantastic room. Dinner at the Ship's Tavern was excellent and that comes from a Bostonian who ordered sea scallops thousands of miles from any salt water. Breakfast the next morning was gracious and I would say fairly priced for the quality of the food and the surroundings. It was a very comfortable stay.

Dear Minotlight,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay and that Ship Tavern’s scallops pleased the palate of a Bostonian! Our six dining outlets take great pride in serving only the best. We hope to welcome you back very soon.

This hotel is living off of their past glory. It was the highest priced 4 star offering in downtown Denver, but the other than being unique and having a bit of history, is significantly lower quality than the modern hotels in the vicinity. Our thermostat was broken and the room was way too hot. I called the front desk to get something done, and they said it would be taken care of immediately. Nothing happened, and the next morning it was still way too hot. A good nights sleep is the first job of a hotel, and this hotel failed in that key area.

Dear ChesapeakeTraveller,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We take great pride in providing an exceptional experience to our guests and I sincerely apologize for your disappointment. I understand your frustration with your guestroom and it is unfortunate that this was not corrected. I assure you that the comfort of our guests is a top priority and it is very unusual for our front desk not to follow through. Although we have had very few incidents regarding temperature issues, we have taken immediate action to address this. Through guest feedback, we have identified a few rooms for evaluation to ensure we are equipped to provide our guests with the most comfortable stay possible. Furthermore, I was disheartened to see your statement about being low quality. As Denver’s only Four-Star, Four-Diamond hotel, we feel that we have a unique and exceedingly high quality experience to offer guests. Our amenities include a luxurious Four-Star spa, six distinct dining options, and unparalleled ambiance & service. Our guestrooms were recently renovated with re-upholstered chairs, updated artwork, new carpeting, new tiled entries, and new television armoires and flat screen TVs. We are also near the completion of an $8 million renovation of our bathrooms which feature dual showerheads, granite countertops and marble tile. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back.

Best,

You can certainly find luxurious resorts all over the world but nothing beats the old world charm of places like the Brown Palace. There is something to be said for an independent hotel that has earned their reputation as opposed to the luxury chains that all start to blend together. I recently stayed at the Brown Palace for two nights for a business conference. My accommodations were perfect. The bed was comfortable, there was a spacious desk in my room, and the bathroom was fantastic! The large tub was too good to pass up and I spent some quality time reading and relaxing there both nights of my stay. The staff was incredibly accommodating and always friendly and attentive. The food at the Palace Arms restaurant was fantastic. I enjoyed a 5 course meal there and each course was perfectly executed.

The meetings staff was perfect. They were not intrusive and never created a disturbance during our meetings to clear plates or serve meals (which is more than I can say about many other hotels!). The chefs as well as the servers were all top-notch professionals! Each meal they prepared for us, including breaks and snacks, was excellent.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel! My only regret is not indulging in the Spa!

this hotel is elaborate as can be, however it lacks substance. The 'lobby' is actually a tea room, so there's no proper lobby in which to sit and read the paper or get on the laptop. We were told we were 'lucky' to get a corner room, and were disappointed to find a very small room, with no tub, although the shower stall was nice and modern. The room was about 1/3 smaller than a typical Hilton or Marriot room.

We first noticed that the HVAC fan was positively howling, as if there was a jet engine in the room. I asked the front desk to switch rooms, and they could not be bothered, but did send a maintenance worker up. He tried to call front desk to switch our room but they did not answer. He was polite and apologetic, and finally reached someone via his radio. however they did not want to switch our room, and made the poor maintenance guy pull out the furniture to get to the unit and fix it. Once the fan was silent, the 4th floor room was then fillled with traffic noise from the street below.

Overall, for the price one could stay at a nearby chain hotel and have a better experience in every regard, and stop by the Brown for tea to take in its opulence. It is beautiful building but not up to modern 3-star standards, let alone 4 star.

Dear law_talkin_guy,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We take great pride in providing each of our guests with exceptional accommodations and service and I sincerely apologize for your disappointment. If I may address a few points that you mentioned: Our lobby does serve as a tea room from noon to 4 p.m., which is a time-honored tradition that has delighted guests for 116 years. However, guests may utilize the lobby before and after that timeframe and enjoy complimentary wireless as well. Being a triangular shaped building, each of our rooms is unique in shape and size, adding to the character of the hotel. Our corner rooms are almost 100 square feet larger than the hotels you mentioned in downtown Denver. Your room also featured one of our newly renovated bathrooms featuring dual showerheads, granite countertops and marble tile, but for those who prefer a bathtub, our 33 “Top of The Brown” executive rooms and three presidential suites feature luxurious Roman bathtubs. We appreciate your feedback and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back.
