Along the rivers edge and beautiful trees everywhere! The hummingbirds are everywhere so bring your feeders. The firewood provided for your camping experience is a great personal touch. Wifi service was ok but there is no phone service!! Not their fault you do have to drive out to Rico to get service. There is no town to visit closeby. You pretty much stay here to relax. And that was ok with us. We drove to Telluride which was great! Groceries are expensive so plan ahead. Bring your crafts. No TV available. You must have a satellite dish to get anything. So many people stay here all season so call early for reservation. We've already booked for 2013!

We love staying in the cabins along the river--so great to hear the water when you go to sleep at night and the hummingbirds love the place as well. Always enjoy our visits.

Room Tip: All the Ranch "houses" are great.

My husband and I made a reservation on June 6, 2012, for one night on July 13, 2012, and had to cancel, due to fires in the area, poor air quality reports, as I have restrictive lung disease. We had planned a 2-week excursion to southwest Colorado we had to cancel, due to air quality, and they were the ONLY campsite to refuse a credit and/or voucher for future use. We spent a great deal of time planning this trip and will definitely return when the fires subside and air improves. Both Rob and April Scott, proprietors, were rude and told me "our air is fine; maybe this isn't the place for you." We were traveling from Florida and were intending to spend a lot of $$$$ in Colorado, which we still intend to do, but we will definitely NOT plan to stay at Priest Gulch after the way we were treated! All national and state campsites gave us full refunds and other private sites gave us partial refunds or vouchers to use when we rebook trip; very fair. What does this say about Priest Gulch? You decide.

We stayed at Priest Gulch Campground for 4 days and found it to be one of the most beautiful campgrounds we've ever stayed in our trailer of six years. The location is ideal for quick day trips to Telluride to the north and Mesa Verde to the south. Our campsite was just 20 feet away from the river which made the experience more enjoyable. After a very long drive from Houston, the person who took us to our campsite actually took the time to help me back in my 30' trailer (I'm not very good at backing up). At dusk, the campground was lit up with small campfires from other sites along the river which reminded me of a Thomas Kingcaid painting. Also, our campsite was very spacious and quiet. I've camped at other places where my slide out was virtually bumping up against the other trailer, but not here. I found the people at the front desk to be very friendly and accommodating. The firewood was all you could burn for free. You just had to load it into your truck on your own which I was perfectly fine with. I mean, it's free!!! I'm not sure about other ammenities as we spent a great majority of our time away from the campground visiting other towns and sites in that part of Colorado. But I will say it was very clean and very quiet. I liked how the campground was snuggled along the river. You couldn't see the highway much less hear any noise. If you go, get a site along the river unless you have very small kids. I highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Unless you have small kids, be sure and get a site next to the river.

I have been going to Priest Gulch Campground for a number of years. The staff is very friendly and very professional. Whenever a problem arises they take care of it immediately. Campground is dog friendly, however, there is always someone who does not pick up after their dog. In this case, if reported they are given a warning and if they refuse to pick up after their pet they may be asked to leave. Animals are to be kept on a leash at all times - only fair to all. The park is extremely clean and they go out of their way to make people feel comfortable. River to fish in, and nearby lakes, clean cabins, restrooms and laundry room, Thursday night potluck (all guests invited), walking and hiking trails nearby. We tried other parks, but keep going back to Priest Gulch.

This campground exists and thrives on word of mouth almost exclusively, and doesn't need a large advertising budget because Mother Nature takes care of it single handedly. ON the river in the forest with appropriate space between rigs and a wide array of cabin options, PG is paradise for those looking for full hookup camping and opportunity to be outside. Not intended to be a resort, those expecting to "be" entertained rather than letting nature provide the backdrop for adventure might be disappointed. The number of all summer residents speaks volumes about the wonderful enviroent. Those who think the staff is unfriendly probably haven't made an honest gesture of friendship themselves. The rules are totally appropriate to protect the enviroenr and to allow everyone an opportunity to enjoy some peace and quiet. We have never seen lax enforcement of the leash law in over 10 years. If you need a pool, clubhouse and a cruise director, this place isn't for you, but if you want to be IN the outdoors with abundant outdoor activities just a few steps away, make a reservation....early. We book at least a year ahead.

First of all check in wasn't very friendly. Then 4 big dogs off leash, one of which attacked our dog! Dog poop not cleaned up. Workers weed wacking right behind our motohome, where the wild flowers were growing, which seemed like forever! So much for peace and quiet. Never mind "the rules about the dogs!" Never will go back here again!
