If you are looking for fine home cooking, warm hospitality, and idyllic rural settings, you cannot go wrong staying at the Country Sunshine B&B.
The B&B is set on a quiet, forested block that slopes down to the Animas River, the same river that flows through Durango, just a few miles downstream. Walter is happy to start a fire in the downstairs fireplace so that you can sit and enjoy the warmth on a cool evening. In the morning I sat in the sunshine on the deck and photographed birds as they pecked at the hanging feeders.
Walter prepares all the food himself. Breakfast is a fine-dining experience, while cookies are available all afternoon, and in the evening Walter brought us some of the most delicious cakes imaginable.
I should mention a minor anecdote that reveals a great deal about the character of Walter and Jodi. I inadvertently left my guide book to New Mexico in the room, and didn't realize until we'd driven for several hours. Walter and Jodi immediately posted the book back to my home address at no extra charge.
Country Sunshine was easily the best B&B we stopped at on our Southwestern holiday.
