This place a little hard to find, but it was worth the trip. We had to call several time's to finally meet up with the guide but once we did we had a great time. We rode two hour's deep in the wood's and saw some beautiful lake's. Met some nice folk's from another state and alot of fun. The only complaint we had is they need to a little more organized as they were hard to meet up with.

Trailhead in town. Easy to park. Goes in at 6800' and summits at 8200'. BLM. Trail could be messy if wet. Forested with occasional views of the city. Early Summer mornings would be good.

This trail can be done by most people. It can also be done by those in wheel chairs. It has spectacular views of the entire Durango area. There is also abundant wild life that may be viewed depending on the time that you do this short hike.

The drive up the mountain is also spectacular!

There are also picnic tables where you can bring your own meal and just sit in the wonderment of this beautiful place.

If you are short on time, schedule this trail since you can see alot in a very short amount of time. You will be glad you visited this spot!

Right off the highway at the north end of town. Maintained well and not crowded. 30 minutes walking to an excellent view of the Animas valley and the entire metro area. 1500 foot climb to the top, with several choices of trails.

Animas Mountain can be a 6 mile trek if you want it to be. You can make it shorter if you want as the trails are marked with maps. Getting to the top of Animas Mountain will give you a great view of the Animas Valley. Once you get to the west side you can see the LaPlata Mountain Range. Takes about 2 hours to do the entire 6 miles. Worth every minute!
