“We Enjoyed Our Stay !”

We camped here most of the week in early July, 2012 with our pop-up camper and loved it! And going back to this campground again in October for the Fall foliage. If you have a big rig, you may not have all the space you need to not feel closed in.

Every time my family and I travel to this part of Colorado we stay at this campground. Its has very friendly host and always willing to help. The tent area of the campground is large but if they aren't busy enough they have half of it closed off for watering. So sometimes it can seem crowded. But the tent spot is a good size. The grass is well maintained and thick and very shaded with large trees. The train comes around 8 am and very neat to watch it come by. Cell phone service is okay. You are kind of down in a valley off the highway so its spotty. Bathrooms are nice and clean. If you are used to camping and been to a variety campgrounds then they are pretty good. A bit crowded at times. It hasn't changed much since we've been going there, which was back in the mid 90s. We will come back again and again. We have friends stay there in a 5th wheel and they stay there every time they go to Durango. So I know they enjoy their stay too.

Room Tip: Call a couple months ahead to reserve a spot because they get pretty crowded during the summer month...

I've been at this campground three times but will not go again. We've stayed at the tent sites when fishing in Durango, each time they have allowed large groups to invade and disrupt the campers. Recently we had 25 scouts at one campsite that had the entire campground enraged - the owners just looked the other way. Bathrooms are dirty, water spigots don't work, not worth the money.

We just spent 4 days there. Sites are short, so it's not big rig friendly. We checked in on Saturday and the WiFi was out. The clerk said they would be out to fix it 1st thing Monday. By Monday noon it still wasn't working. I was then told they would be out Wednesday. No apologies. No adjustment to the price. The lids on the dumpsters are so heavy that my wife hurt her shoulder. The owners are VERY unfriendly and the lady owner has the people skills of a goat. Absolutely no clue what customer service is or how to talk to guests. Very unprofessional. Will never go back.

I've been traveling the Southwest for almost a month now in an RV and have seen the gamut of RV parks. United is a four-mile trip from town, but is the closest one I found, and is right on a free trolley line, which is a plus. The internet is strong and reliable, the sites are level and shady, and the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad goes right by the campground twice a day, which is a nice touch of local color. The showers could use some attention. They were clean, but a bit shabby. For the price (about $36, no discounts offered for AAA or Good Sam), I expected a little more in the showers. That said, overall, it's in the top 5 of campgrounds so far.

Good sites--our was level and had some tree shade--lovely view of valley and some bucolic cows in the distance. Quiet time of year which does help.

Pros. Good check in, nice level site, lovely view, laundry tidy and well priced. On the trolly line, and the narrow gauge train line. Great watching the steam trains passing.

Cons. Only offered 10% discount on a weeks stay, no other discounts, good Sam etc. Bit expensive but maybe that is Colorado. Could not get a seal on the sewer outlet, connection too deep into the ground.

We would stay here again.
