Ok campground. Clean facilities. Friendly staff. Nice little corner for tents. Really appreciated the pool on a hot day. Would have been good to have a clothesline to dry laundry - seemed silly to pay for a dryer on such a hot, sunny day. And then at evening the frogs started croaking. With enthusiasm and volume. Not a bad site but take earplugs if tenting.

We come to Durango often and we always camp (tent) here. The tent sites are green and lush and are well away from the RVs which is really nice. Showers are clean, laundry equipment works well, WiFi worked everytime we have been there and there's a pool that is small but pleasant. Also, the trolley stops here so you can ride into town. True, it's a bummer that you can't have a campfire but the tent sights are beautifully maintained and the view is great. The Durango/Silverton train comes right through the campground which is fun. We've never experienced rude treatment by the staff, in fact, they've always been friendly and helpful If you're looking for a wilderness experience this is not the place, but if you want an affordable, clean and comfortable place to camp while you have fun mountain biking/hiking/rafting in Durango it's great.

This is a great place to stay. It's quite, yet close to all the things to see and do in the area. We love that the famous train comes through the campground every morning at 8:50 and 9:35. Folks run out to see it, take pictures and wave at the conductors, engineers and passangers. It's fun.

You can drive to town or take the free trolley which runs often. We were in site 43 and our cell phone (Verizon) worked well. Would stay here again in a minute.

Location was good - free Durango trolley stop was right across the street. Nice trees, but the trailer/RV camp sites were right on top of each other on gravel. Tent area was a nice grassy area but don't even think of walking your dogs on grass. Dogs have their own weed patch for a run. I use that word fisiciously because they are not allowed to run off a leash for a second. More on that later. No fire pits. No barbecue grills. WiFi they offered was very spotty and was inaccesible 80% of the time. Campground is in a very low area so cell coverage was poor. For your money, you get gravel, utilities, and very close neighbors, period. Oh ya - a train runs right through the middle of the campground. Granted, the narrow gauge train is a treasure to the area, but forget about sleeping in! We checked in and got a copy of the rules but no one mentioned anything about my pets. As soon as we got set up, I took my two dogs to the grassy area for a much needed stretch after a long drive. I guess the folks in the office were watching out the back because they sent a Camp Nazi out on a golf cart to inform me that dogs were only allowed on the weedy area next to the train tracks. I complied, and never took my dog to the grassy area again. Dogs are not allowed on the grass, but I guess cows are fine because there was a big steer out there the next morning who was challenging a man trying to walk on the path ... Cow patties must be okay. No camp nazi showed up to wrangle the steer and he WAS a danger to the guests. As we were leaving my husband had dog duty and was in the designated weed area but let the dogs off the leash to run in
the "run". Again, the office folks reacted swiftly and rudely. The woman told my husband she needed to have a serious talk with him as they had talked to us at least a dozen times about our dogs. Huh? She wouldn't let it go until he promised that we were leaving and that we would not return, or recommend it to others. She seemed fine with that, thanked him and huffed away. So we are doing our level (which is better than the camp sites) best to spread the word to others with pets. Durango is a great place and there is so much to see and do here. Do not give the United campground your business! There are so many lovely, friendly places within the area who will welcome you and your pets. These folks are wrapped way too tight. We wouldn't return to this campground on a "double dog dare."

We stayed at this campground for Memorial Day this year and when I made a reservation for two sites, I requested that we be camped in sites next to each other. When we arrived, we realized the campground is arranged so that in every other site in the row, two trailers/RVs will have their doors open facing each other and the next two sites the trailers/RVs will be "back to back." This allows open space where the doors face each other between trailers and closer spacing where the sites are set up back to back. Obviously, we wanted to be in two sites with the doors facing each other. When we arrived, there were plenty of sites next to each other that would have accommodated this, but they had pre-selected two back to back sites for us and would not let us move. In fact, the site just on the other side of one of the assigned sites would have allowed us to face each other, so it would have required swapping just one of our sites for the reservation on the other side of us. This was more than the staff was willing to do. I'm sure they get special requests all the time, and it may make it more difficult for them to coordinate, but that's the business they are in and they just didn't get that. They were not friendly or helpful. It's a good thing once we got situated we didn't have to deal with them again. The campground itself was nice, the train passing through and the easy trolley to town are high points. Just don't expect friendly or accommodating staff.

Three of us (in our twenties) stayed here after a backpacking stint. We LOVED this place - showers were clean, all amenities were working, and the staff was friendly. The campsite was lush & green and the view was gorgeous. The trolley stop is right outside of the campground so you can get into the town for free. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a comfortable and beautiful camping experience.

I will not stay here again. I have stayed here four times over the past three summers in a tent site and it has gotten progressively worse each year. Half of the camp sites are closed for watering at any given time so tent campers are crowded into a small area. Large groups will stay here and apparently management allows groups with a large number of campers to stay in just a few sites. This past summer more than five families were allowed to occupy two tent sites. Often large groups such as Boy Scouts will roll into camp at all hours. Some are well behaved and others are not and disrupt campers. Management does little to curb disruptive behavior such as people walking through your camp, loud music, partying, and noise after the quiet hours of 10:00 PM. Do yourself a favor, avoid the frustration, and stay elsewhere.
