We spent ten wonderful days at the Wyndham, Durango and have nothing but good things to say about the resort and staff. The front desk staff went above and beyond for us. The rooms were adequate and clean but the refrigerator is a little loud but at the end of the day that's all you want to do is sleep so it really didn't bother our sleep. The hotel is in a wonderful location, close to downtown and the restaurants downtown were very good and everyone was pleasant there also. Nice place for shopping. Everyone in Durango and Colorado where we visited were so friendly. Take the tours from the Wyndham because all we took were wonderful and our guides couldn't do enough for us and explained everything to us, the rangers didn't do as nice a job of explaining things.

For time share users (Wyndham owners or exchange users), this is a gem. Location at foot of 2nd Avenue is very convenient, within easy walking distance of all downtown attactions. Since it's a converted hotel, the rooms are small, but comfortably furnished and entirely adequate for the usual week-long stays. A few things would detract from longer stays; i.e., poor lighting for reading; connecting doors between units allow for too much noise from inconsiderate neighbors, and admit cooking smells from the adjacent unit. Also, the bathrooms are a bit dated, needing some attention to caulking and showers, and the small, cheap, low-height toilets ought to be replaced. Still, the location can't be beat, and the staff are friendly, accommodating, and helpful. This is a great property, and the only time share (to my knowledge) in Durango town. The PROs really outweigh the few CONs. A final note: while this site does not have a pool, guests have privileges for the Best Western pool just across the street.

The rooms are really small, but nice. The desk staff was more than helpful and pleasant. We did the Mesa Verde tour and it was worth every penny. It was an all day trip that included lunch and non stop conversation...much better than the ranger at the location who gave very little information. We skied at Purgatory the rest of our time there. The rooms are not as spacious as we are used to with Wyndham, but unless you are spending all your time in the unit, it is adequate for meal preparation (there is limited kitchenette, but I am a creative cook!) and sleeping. I would probably not recommend this place if you are large...space is limited. One of the nice things is that there is no sales office located on the premises, so NO sales pitch/update. We are owners in the Wyndham system and the updates are usually not pleasant. Walked around Durrango in the evening and attended the preview of "Cheap Ski Movie" and discovered I had met these folks in Denver! Go see the movie when it comes out...very funny. We were there, basically to ski, so we did not spend much time in town. Hot tub is outside and interesting when it snows. Laundry is not in the room, but outside the check in desk.

My sister and I stayed at this condo, in a 1 br, for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. The room was nice and fully furnished. The staff at the Wyndham was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

Most other Wyndham resorts have much larger rooms and are much nicer, but are located in the boonies. This is the exception. It is located two short blocks from the historic train station and the Main Street shopping district. Sure, Wyndham could have built a huge resort out of town, but that wouldn't be convenient for seeing Durango. As it is, you can easily walk everywhere interesting. I'm glad Wyndham has this resort. It is so convenient.

We stayed here for one week. Although the room was clean, it was very hot (in April) with no way to control the temp other than opening the sliding door (which made it very noisy). Refrig was also noisy, ran constantly, and generated a lot of heat. Rooms above us had ceramic tile floors and we had to listen to constant screeching of the chairs.

Communications at the front desk and from the staff were extremely poor--we got a basket of goodies in our room with a note saying they're "complimentary," but when we asked for coffee for the next day, we were told, "You're expected to bring your own." We didn't know where to take our trash nor what entrance to use to carry our things in. They didn't tell us.

The tour guide at the front desk was a joke! She promotes only those activities that benefit HER--she gets a commission from certain vendors. She gave us a card that said 60% off everything in one store--when we tried to use it for a $60 wall hanging, the seller laughed and said, "Oh no, but I can give you 10%."

The guide was VERY unprepared for the "Historic Walking Tour," which costs $10 a person. She pointed out the Fiornini Building and when a man asked, "Now WHO was Fiornini?" she said, "I don't know--read your handout." We found the same handout on the Internet. Part of the "Historic" tour was telling us about HER former tour hut downtown and a modern soda bottling company. Give me a break!!! It was a total waste of time! Other guests on the tour made similar comments. It really soured us on the hotel in general and our overall stay.

Staff at the front desk would not accept comments or complaints. They said, "We have no complaint department here. You have to write a review online."

We've had better communications and a more restful stay at Motel 6!

(First - the pictures shown are of the Hampton Inn and NOT from Wyndham Durango.)

My wife and I stayed at Wyndham Durango from May, 11 thru May 16 and in spite of some negative sounding information we basically had a good time and enjoyed Durango and the surrounding area very much.

I knew from Wyndham’s own web site that the rooms were smaller than typical condo rooms. In fact this is a converted suites hotel. I thought that they had combined 2 hotel rooms to make one condo but the room size is basically hotel room sized. Since the building is round, the bedroom and bathroom are in the back and the living/kitchen area is in the front room off the hall. It is equipped with a refrigerator, kitchen sink, dishwasher, stove, microwave oven, and TV all in a space of about 10 feet. There is no washer/dryer in the room because there is no space for them. Lighting seemed more than adequate although natural lighting was difficult without losing privacy.

We had the deluxe room with the jetted tub and that is exactly what it was, a one person tub with jets. There were two public hot tubs on the roof directly across the hall from our 4th floor room. The door to the hot tubs was still unlocked at 10:30p.m. and I’m not sure when they are locked. Free washers and dryers were on the first floor off the lobby but one had to request soap and dryer sheets from the front desk. The entire resort was very quiet with few children partly because we were there before most schools were out.

The staff is great. Check-in was a breeze. At one time I needed to receive a FAX and then resend it and the staff took care of this for me. I had some trouble early on connecting to the wireless Internet and they helped out with that as well. Finally, since they do not have a public computer connected to a printer, there was no way to book my next reservation for the way home. Again, the staff helped out by booking my reservation for me and printing out the required proof. There was a problem with the hot water during our stay and the staff called and left update messages about it.

Odors were a bit of a problem. The resort is located very close to the railroad station and steam railroad. On several occasions the odor from the coal-fired steam locomotives which have to run all night would waft into the room. On other occasions some terrible cooking smells from the room next door seemed to fill the entire floor. I suppose it could happen anywhere but this is the first time we’ve experienced it.

Because of its small size, I wouldn’t recommend this “resort” for families with children (unless you book connecting rooms). There are no activities programs and the impression is that due to its small size, there was no money for activities but it would be nice if they had at least had one Internet computer connected to a printer.

If guests want to use a pool, they use the one in the Best Western next door –and use their pool towels from their Wyndham room. However, this Wyndham room had a nice king- sized bed and if you don’t mind a hotel-sized room with cooking privileges, this isn’t a bad exchange. It doesn’t hold a candle to the Doubletree Hotel down the hill with a river and mountain view.
