I've stopped in to Los Volcanes a few times for breakfast, the last time was a week ago. Having spent a decade in south and west Texas along (and across) the border, I missed those eateries that were more like an extension of the family kitchen than a full blown commercial restaurant. Volcanes is a lot like those places. It certainly isn't fancy or trendy or full of jazzed up "Mexican" dishes that populate the Norte, but it is pleasing in that down home hacienda way. The plates and glasses could have been picked up at a restaurant salvage sale, the booths aren't kept up to date, but the food is home-style Mexican. Service is delightfully unobtrusive and friendly and the breakfasts are just what you'd expect when you want something simple and satisfying. While I haven't tried the lunches or dinners, I'll stop in for a Mexican breakfast anytime.
