“Laid Back and Down Home”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

I've stopped in to Los Volcanes a few times for breakfast, the last time was a week ago. Having spent a decade in south and west Texas along (and across) the border, I missed those eateries that were more like an extension of the family kitchen than a full blown commercial restaurant. Volcanes is a lot like those places. It certainly isn't fancy or trendy or full of jazzed up "Mexican" dishes that populate the Norte, but it is pleasing in that down home hacienda way. The plates and glasses could have been picked up at a restaurant salvage sale, the booths aren't kept up to date, but the food is home-style Mexican. Service is delightfully unobtrusive and friendly and the breakfasts are just what you'd expect when you want something simple and satisfying. While I haven't tried the lunches or dinners, I'll stop in for a Mexican breakfast anytime.

“Your classic Mexican restaurant”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

I've been going here for over 20 years. They are consistently good and the service has always been fine. I like they have decent margaritas and Modelo beer. The owner is originally from Monterrey and is a nice guy.

“Good food, good prices, pleasant staff. Atmosphere a little bland,”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Los Volcanos in Elizabeth is convenient location for a weekend breakfast or weekday dinner. We have had good food every time we go...not spectacular atmosphere so if you want to celebrate something, might go to the competition in the heart of downtown. Still, location makes it a good choice for midweek, decent quality and portion size. Good value.

“Yuck”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

We have given this restaurant a try a few times because the parking lot always looks full. Each time we have left wondering what people see in it. It is old and dingy and needs a good cleaning and the food is less than average. The service has been slow each time and although I would say professional I wouldn't say friendly.

“Pretty Good Mexican Restaurant in Elizabeth”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

Los Volcanes is pretty average in all respects. They do have a good selection of items from which to choose. I had the beef fajitas and found the meat to be a bit chewy. My kids definitely prefer Guadalajara, which is just down the road.
Service was great.
I thought the prices were reasonable - maybe a bit under Guadalajara.
There aren't a whole lot of dining options in Elizabeth, so I would say give this place a try.
