The Blue Spruce Inn was recommended to us by a local. We chose to eat in the bar area where you could order off of either the dining room menu or the bar menu. The food was excellent and they had great choices of wines and beers to choose from

The blue spruce has amazing trout. The atmosphere is cozy. The history of the building is interesting....ask about the bar

I remember going here a few years back and it was excellent. Not sure if they've had a change of management, but it's just not that good anymore. Service was incredibly slow, and it was a Tuesday night with less than half the tables filled. It took about 15 minutes to get a cocktail and a bottle of wine, which should have taken less than 5. While the scallop appetizer was quite good, the rest of the dishes were just ok. My wife and I both ordered the trout almondine, and it was too dry and fishy tasting, particularly the piece my wife had. We asked one of the staff to send the waitress over but she didn't appear for another 15 minutes and that point my wife was in no mood to get another dish as most everybody else was nearly done eating. The entire experience was not what we are used to. We won't be back.

Last note. If you are a wine person, their list consists of wines that you could buy at a grocery store, and the stemware is terrible.

Ordered the river trout which was good. The bacon tomato soup was good too. The bar tender was friendly and fairly helpful. The atmosphere is most lacking. That's not the staff's fault. The restaurant / bar exudes out of date. The bar doesn't really come off as a steakhouse bar. Weird, old stuff is on the walls and skylight ledge. cheap beer signs are on the wall as is a tuaca neon sign. Those things are fine for Johnny Gs, a local dump that is a favorite, but not a high(er) end steak house. I would recommend it for the food but nothing else.

Great food, atmosphere and excellent service. One of the best steaks we have had in a while. Cozy room with fireplace was perfect for a snowy winter night.
