Owner description: The Georgetown Loop Railroad was one of Colorado’s first visitor attractions. Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. This is a ride to remember! The beauty of the rugged Rocky Mountains surrounds you as our old-time steam locomotive or one of our powerful diesel locomotives winds up the Clear Creek canyon. Pass by remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open cars. Great family fun for kids of all ages.

“A great way to spend a couple of hours!”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

We really enjoyed learning about the history and the views are beautiful. Yes, it's a short 1-hour ride but that's ok. A 2-hour trip through more mountain passes, etc. would be ideal but it is what it is, and it's cool to hear the train whistle and see the steam spiraling out into the mountain air. You can pay a little more and ride in a heated, enclosed car (take your photos with no problem through the large windows) or pay less and ride in the open cars. It was cold and snowy so we wisely chose the heated car. (Don't get the apple cider, by the way - most horrid stuff I've ever tasted, which is what they DO need to improve upon) Either way, it's a fun way to spend an hour or two. Kids will enjoy it.

“Great way to spend a few hours”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

My wife and I saw an advertisement for the Historic Railroad at our hotel and decided to check it out. The location where the train departs is beautiful and makes for some great backgrounds for photos. I was a little concerned at first because the other guests were mostly families with young children, but we ended up enjoying the ride. We got a table to ourselves in the covered car where we were served drinks and snacks. The views were nice and the experience of being on a train that operates through the mountains was a unique. We thought it was a great way to spend a few hours while we were in Georgetown and we would recommend to other people looking for something different to do.

“Scenic train ride”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

View was very pretty, snow on pine tree even though there was only about an inch of snow out. Glad we were in the inside, heated car. The staff should of kept the door to the car closed more than they did, it was a bit cold. Some food avail. for sale and soft drink and chip or cookie came with tkt price. Enjoyed the trip a lot, worth doing.

“Enjoyable time.”

Well worth the cost and very informative. Ride only took about 90 minutes both ways. Not as scenic as the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge but still a nice trip.

“Probably good for families”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

I took this trip with my dad last week and it's probably a better ride for kids, of which there were many. (I'm 38!). It's a short ride and we didn't see a whole heck of a lot. We could have seen just as much (if not more) just by driving up I-70 for another two miles (which we did). The staff was great - very friendly with cheesy but funny jokes.

Also, be forewarned: if you don't buy the parlor tickets, you could be sitting outside or in a car with no windows. It was cold on the day that we went and I was glad that I had sprung for the more expensive tickets. It was nice to be inside a car with a wood burning fireplace!
