“Sunlight - Good ski-ing”

Sunlight Mountain Resort

Attraction details
Owner description: Sunlight features 67 named trails covering over 470 acres. In addition to miles of cruising intermediate terrain, Sunlight's East Ridge has one of the steeper runs in the state. Aptly named, The Heathen falls beneath your feet at a breathtaking 52 degrees. Sunlight is home to one of the longest trails in ski country, Ute, a beginner slope that winds more than 2 miles from summit to base. Sunlight also hosts some of the best tree skiing in Colorado with many aspen groves untracked days after snowfall. All trails converge at the base lodge, so friends and family can always keep track of each other

“Sunlight - Good ski-ing”
Reviewed 19 January 2009

Sunlight Resort is a very nice area, not as well known as some of the bigger resorts, but it offers good ski-ing at a reasonable price. It is fairly accessible, being about a 15-20 minute drive off the interstate at Glenwood Springs. There are only three old, 2 or 3 person chairlifts, but they are rarely crowded and cover a good deal of ground. The mountain has a good variety of runs, mostly greens and blues but also a number of challenging blacks. Its a good place to get away from the glitz of some of the other resorts and enjoy ski-ing the way it was back in the day.

“Our favorite ski resort in CO two years in a row”
Reviewed 4 January 2009

Sunlight Mountain is our favorite "hidden treasure" skiing destination two years in a row. Mountain is located 30 min drive from Glenwood Springs and is loved by the locals.
What makes Sunlight special:
- not a commercial place, more like a skiing area for locals
- you can drive all the way to the base of the mountain in your car and park it there for free. On the way back you can literally ski all the way back to your car, which also makes eating snacks from the stash in the trunk easier
- you can rent great equipment there cheap and then use for skiing at the other resorts (2 rental shops, one at the base of the mountain, second - in Glenwood Springs. choose the one at the mountain - much better quality of equipment and service)
- trails are just great with most of them marked blue (a lot of black ones if you dare)
- well groomed terrain
- affordable ski school
- no crowds - you can easily be the first one leaving your trace on the groomed trail
What needs improvement:
- slow and old lifts - be prepared from the start
- food in the cafe is just bad, save yourself and bring your own
Overall a fantastic terrain and quality of snow for the half of the Snowmass and Aspen price.

“Low-key family skiing or boarding”
Reviewed 18 March 2008

Sunlight never has a lift line longer than 4 people. The powder is fantastic, difficulty level for everyone, the friendliest staff of all the Colorado resorts, and a non-competitive, very family oriented atmosphere. Been boarding Sunlight for 6 years and have never gotten run over by a young punk on a plank (although I am one);) No hustle of the I-70 Denver crowd...they all go somewhere bigger and more expensive. Lots of small kids and families on the slopes. Never ever crowded. Groomed slopes and powdery happiness awaits. If you like Monarch, you'll love Sunlight.
