“mixed, great bed! ok room, but great views”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2009

first off, we like to travel to retro motels and historic hotels. We are not high maintenance or fuzzy travelers. We roll with things, travel is about adventure and we don't expect everyplace to be a 3 or 4 star hotel. We've stayed in Glenwood a lot (on way to Palisade for Wine Festival), it's a groovy town. Hotel Denver was not what we expected. It is two building connected (some atrium done in late 70s Mod?) While it had a great old bed, brewery attached and a great view of the train station, Hotel Colorado and river/mountains, the rest of the room was a motel 6. steel doors, the bathroom (again motel 6) and the false overhead ceiling (right out of an office bldg). overly large flat screen tv. the room was big, but not historic as we had hoped. hallways had beautiful furniture. if you ever take the train from Denver (or anywhere else) the hotel is right across the street. the staff was friendly and had toiletries that i had forgotten. so that was great.

going back to the bed. it was actually the best part of the room besides the view. hand crafted quilt. I wouldn't pass on the hotel, but don't expect retro or historic. oh- we where able to take drinks up to the room from the brewery (it's off the main lobby).

Overall, If you are looking for an historic 3 star, this isn't it. But if you are looking for a nice comfortable clean place with nice views of the river, this works really well.

I get so tired of the cookie cutter hotels i go out of my way to find special places. This is one of them. The staff was very helpful and attentive. The rooms are great and the pub next door makes their own beer. What more could you ask for!

The friendly desk staff at the Hotel Denver made our stay so enjoyable! We walked in with no reservation - they recommended a corner room, which was clean, comfortable, spacious and had great views. (I'm sure reservations are necessary in a busier season!!) The staff recommended restaurants, things to do in the area, and got on the phone to set things up for us when possible. Their attitude was that they couldn't do enough for us!
The room was charming and comfortable. The bed and pillows were soooo comfortable. Nice linens too. I rarely use the toiletries in hotels, but absolutely loved the natural ones in the Hotel Denver. Great place to stay!!!

Ended up having to spend an unscheduled stay in Glenwood Springs due to weather. We stayed at the Hotel Denver in one of the river view rooms. One of the nicest rooms I have stayed at in a long time! My wife is a quilter, and she was delighted with the antique touches in the room including a handmade quilt on the bed. We had a great evening at the onsite pub & restaurant – good steak, and if you like beer get the IPA they brew. My wife has informed me that this will be a regularly scheduled stop for us from now on. The staff and people in in the area are all very nice – Thanks for the wonderful experience.

My boyfriend and I stayed there in December 2008 for 3 nights (we are 25 yrs old). We got a "Denver Room" and it was quite spacious and comfortable. We had a nice view of the river and there was a train station right outside but we never heard it and it never woke me up during the night. I have the service a 3 but only because the woman at the front desk was not very friendly but otherwise the hotel was nice and quiet. It is also a short walk to the hot springs and is close to a lot of restaurants. The bar that is connected to the hotel brews it's own beer and it was a nice little spot to eat and drink after the hot springs! The hotel also offers room service from that bar during business hours. The TV in the room was nice, premium channels, the wifi connection was strong. The showers are standard- nothing too fancy. Beds are comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay there again. They also offered a deal with hotel stay and ski pass to sunlight and hot springs pass- i would definately take advantage of that again. For some reason they had troubles getting us our ski passes so they gave us an extra pass for the hot springs.. which was wonderful!

We were travelling between Denver and Salt Lake City and stayed here as a stopover. The hotel room was a little cramped - but adequate - and was good for an overnight stopover. The lady on reception however was quite rude and agressive - I'd hate to have any problems dealing with her! Nothing really in Glenwood Springs - wouldn't go back.

  • Liked — Comfortable bed
  • Disliked — Vile receptionist

This hotel is so charming! We loved the antique furnitures in the hallways and we even found a 2 volume History of the World book published in the late 1800s! The room maintained that historic feeling, but had the internet connection and the flat screen TV. Staff was friendly and proximity to the BrewPub was very convenient.

Only negatives were that
1) The shower pressure was terrible and hot water ran out pretty fast, and
2) The heater was really loud!

  • Liked — Historic feeling
