Owner description: 64 Million Years in the Making... Fossil Trace Golf Club is one of Denver Colorado's premier public golf courses designed by renowned golf course architect Jim Engh. Located in Golden, Colorado - Fossil Trace Golf Club is nestled adjacent to the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front Range and only 15-minutes from downtown Denver, Colorado. In its short history, the golf course has enjoyed tremendous success and is considered one the finest golf courses and golf experiences available in Denver and all of Colorado. Most recently, Westword Magazine named Fossil Trace as "Best Golf Course in Denver" for the second time. The golf course opened in July of 2003, approximately 64-million years after the first dinosaurs walked where holes 11 through 15 now sit. Triceratops footprints, as well as other prehistoric creatures' fossils can be viewed adjacent to the golf courses 12th green. Also, located just inside the main doors of the golf course clubhouse is an exhibit that details the rich history of the property and shares information about the dinosaur tracks and other impressive fossils uncovered on the golf course. In addition to the prehistoric relics at Fossil Trace Golf Club, several massive remnants of clay mining equipment can be seen throughout the golf courses layout. Each piece serves as a reminder of the rich history of the property and adds to the award winning golf experience. Take a golf vacation in Denver, Colorado and experience one of Denver's true "must play" golf courses adjacent to the Rocky Mountain Front Range Fossil Trace Golf Club. As one of the top Denver Golf Courses you can play, experience Fossil Trace for yourself.

“Fabulous Golf”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

My husband and I were on a ski trip but not much snow so he decided to play golf. What a fantastic place. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. the course was well maintained in beautiful surroundings. There were assistants driving round always ready to assist with shots or advice on how to play a hole. Also a refreshment cart which would also deliver food that was ordered via the computer in the cart.
The course has some "different" hazards, huge rock formations, water hazards that were challenging. We had a fabulous day as the course is in a valley it was very warm and I even got sunburnt on my leg and arm not bad for early April.
We had a snack in the bar afterwards which was very enjoyable.

“Great golf course!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2012

My buddy and I took a golf trip to Denver and this was one of the courses we were told to play. We really enjoyed the course - lots of elevation changes, beautiful surroundings (mountains and the rock formations), excellent service, and free divot repairs (that nobody seemed to use). The greens were a little worn and shaky but otherwise fine.
Our only complaint was that the rough was really hard to play out of. Granted, this could be normal for golf around Denver, but there is definitely a penalty if you find this thick stuff!
I would definitely play here again one day.
