I thought the museum would be interesting but it was amazing. We learned so much about the area minerals and geology. Make sure you grab a brochure for the Mines Geology Trail before you leave the museum. It's worthwhile even you only visit the first 2 stops after the museum to see dinosaur tracks, leaf and log imprints.

The Geology Museum at The Colorado School of Mines is unique in my experience. It's located a few blocks from the center of Golden, and incorporates an amazing array of minerals, from Colorado, the U.S., and the world. It also features a modest exhibition of fossils, as well as a gift shop that's refreshingly geology-oriented. Exhibits of minerals that fluoresce under ultraviolet and asteroids were fascinating, and they even feature a Moon rock. I highly recommend the Geology Museum at "Mines."

Great little museum that's not hard to find, it's located close to the interstate. If you do plan to stop here look at the museum's website for parking information. It is located on a univeristy campus so parking can be an issue. The students are very nice and helpful.

Had a tour by the Director, and this little museum has a LOT of interesting history, rocks, fossils, and other tidbits of geological interest (including a moon rock and meteors).

Even if you are not a 'rock-hound', it's worth a free visit for an hour!

If you are interested in looking at rocks, this is a must-see. Rocks from all over.. Including outer space. Two thumbs up (my wife's & mine).
