My wife and try to stay in old motels that have been brought back to life. This was a real surprise when we drove up and saw the old "El Palomino" sign sitting out by the road. When we checked in the owner told us when they bought the motel it had been closed for 10 years. Through hard work and persistence they slowly painted and cleaned and as the business picked up they began to restore the rooms one by one. Let me tell you this was the cleanest motel we have ever stayed in. The rooms were the original size, with a nice ceramic tile bath, coffee maker and flat screened wall mounted TV. The outside grounds were well manicured and the pool was sparkling clean. I don't know if the owner cleans the rooms, but you could eat off of the floor. We have stayed in the lowest end motels ($19,95) per night to plush 5 star resorts at many hundred of dollars per night and this was by far the best deal we have ever found for the price. I can't say enough about the El Palomino Motel. If you are in Grand Junction and you can't stay here, keep on driving. Dollar Tree store across the street sells great popcorn and they are open late.
