We stayed in the lake house cabin. Great location right on the lake. Great view although the cabin has no place really to sit outside to enjoy it. There is a boat dock, which if you rent or have a boat is great. Also if you bring your own chairs that is a great place to sit and enjoy the view.

The cabins were described in some reviews as "rustic". The lake house went WAY beyond rustic...it was filthy! Cob webs everywhere with tons of bugs caught in them. floor was gross and super old. Kitchen was dirty. Place hadn't been dusted this century. Beds were OK. On top of all that our 6 year old found 2 magazines of bullets for a 38 magnum. What the hell!? There was also medication (in arms reach of a child) that expired 15 years ago and spices and random boxed food in the kitchen that also expired over 10 years ago.

Just gross...
Grand lake is beautiful but I would recommend enjoying it from another location

Room Tip: Do not stay at the lake house cabin!

This hotel is ideally situated in very close proximity to both Grand Lake, great hiking trails and the mountain town itself. It's a great location especially for people with kids as there are so many things to do in a very short distance. The proprietors are very friendly and a good source of tips on how to experience the best places and how to save a few dollars here and there. The very nearby hiking trails (my favorite) offer a true rocky mountain experience with plenty of wild life, beautiful meadows and skill levels for all hikers, but the Lake offers everything... well... that lakes offer. Great cabins - truly first rate, with full kitchen and as many amenities as a mountain cabin could reasonably offer. Never seen so many hummingbirds in all my live. A true Rocky Mountain experience at its finest. Definitely going back next year.

Room Tip: The "Brownie" cottage probably offers the best view of the lake.

We went to Rocky Mnt Nat'l park during the shut down and we thought that we could get to Estes Park (had a reservation at the YMCA) from the west entrance. Wrong. It started snowing (10/5) and we were going to go back to check out the other YMCA site. We saw the sign for Grand Lake and decided to make a detour to check it out. Good thing we did! We drove through town, couldn't decide where to stay and came to the end of town and saw the cottages! We instantly decided to stop the car and check out the property. Mary came outside to meet with us (business was bad as the park was closed!) and she gave us a discount to a one bedroom cabin. We loved the fireplace as it kept us super warm in the living room. The futons were a little uncomfortable to sit in for prolong amount of time but the bed was comfy. We walked into town (all of 20 steps) to dinner and then a bar for some arcade games. The next day we drove to the Nat'l Forest to do a short hike in the snow. It was beautiful. The lake was BEAUTIFUL! I'd love to visit the Park again next year and would love to stay at the cottage again!

We booked the cabin on short notice (2x weeks prior to departure). Owner provided discount due to coming during middle of week. Owner was also very accomodating as she was able to obtain a fold up crib for the kiddo (1.5yrs). Cabin we stayed in had 2x bedrooms, large living room, large kitchen, and front deck that was shared with neighboring cabin. The front porch allowed for relaxing and lounging during am and pm hrs. Accomodations were very clean. Location is what the Grand Escape is about. Out the front door and across the road was access to the lake (swim area, boat rentals, coffee shop) and also access to the main strip of Grand Lake (shops, restaurants, playground). Did find out out that Grand Lake is usually cold but coming in Aug allowed for the water temp to be in the upper 60's-lower 70's. Grand Lake is perfect for taking the little one as it allowed the best of all worlds (swimming, playground). Hiking was aproximately 10min walk from cabin door and then you would be reaching a trailhead that led further into Rocky Mtn National Park. Also Rocky Mtn National Park is a 10min drive from the location (great hiking, camping, scenery, viewing animals- saw 5x moose, 30+ Elk and 2x male Elk fighting). Only draw back (has nothing to do with owners/cabins themselves) is that there is a bar close by that plays live music some evenings which can make it noisy at night (turn on a fan/hike all day you will have no problem tuning out the noise). Would recommend to anyone with little ones or families that want to play in the great CO outdoors (not too many CO towns have access to a lake) but also want access to local resturants and shops.

Room Tip: Talk to the owner to problem solve your needs/wants when booking a room.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here in the Ramona cabin on a little kid-free getaway. We loved the location; we could walk to the lake, marina, coffee shops, restaurants, and more. And we always love the beauty of Grand Lake. The owners were great, and responded quickly to the one issue we had (a window that wouldn't close). The cabin itself was nice, and tucked into some aspen trees. There was plenty of room inside, and it had a nice cozy, cabin feel. The one thing we disliked was how close it was to the other cottages. We did not sit outside on the provided chairs at all because of the proximity to the other cottages/cabins. But the location and everything within walking distance made up for that. Overall, it was a great bargain and a great find for a last-minute holiday weekend getaway. If you don't mind close neighbors, then it is great!

My husband & I just spent last weekend with Tom & Mary. We will be returning for The Race For The Cure the first weekend in October. This is the most wonderful place I have found in CO. We have brought several of our friends here to enjoy this quiet, cozy friendly retreat. I have family from D.C. coming in October. I can't wait for them to experience this little gem. The cabins are cozy & very well equipped. Mary goes above & beyond to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. GEC's are located at the very end of town, allowing you to park your car & walk anywhere. The wildlife is amazing! (Moose @ the front door) When you need to exhale just sit on the front porch & thank the stars above that your in OUR HAPPY PLACE!!! Enjoy.

Room Tip: Eagle's Nest is like living in a Tree House!!! Hillside is our honeymoon cottage Ramona is the...
