Upon arriving we found the place to be charming, the dinner was great (Lamb Burger with Red Currant) and the view was amazing. After dinner we finally went to our rooms and couldn't help but laugh at the size of the cabin. Three adults, all our luggage in a tiny little room. We had a queen with a pull out bed and it took us a lot of moving around of furniture to get everything to fit. We ended up with the couch bed blocking the door and a lot of stubbed toes on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The shower in the bathroom was like showering in one of those camper showers. The actual lodge was pretty perfect, it had a large fire going in the middle with seating around, swings on the porch, and one of those large deer antler chandeliers. There was a nice lawn with heated pool and hot tub and a game room as well.

The lodge is lovely, and we enjoyed our stay there. It was advertised as rustic, and it is. They have atractive cabins perched on the side of the hill overlooking the lake. The lodge itself has great views and a very attractive common area with a big fireplace.

I expected rustic, but a lot of stuff didn't work. The internet for the units was down. The door to the bathroom in our unit woldn't latch. And the windows in teh bathroom wouldn't open because they were intended to swing in, but couldn't because the mounted the blinds in front of them.

This is also not avery good place for people with diabilities. My wife walks with a cane these days, and is averse to stairs. There were four or five high steps to get into the unit, and the railing wasn't all that sturdy.

All that said, we enjoyed our stay. A little attention to detail would go a long way..

This lodge has all the charm and feel of the old national park lodges. A grand presence, lots of wood beams an entire front of windows looking out over Grand Lake. You walk in the lobby and think this place is kind of amazing...grand fireplace, fun park tourist items for sale, amazing view. Like previous review it is a bummer not to be able to rate this place excellent because you really want to. So Wow on main building ambiance, but average on service, value and the actual cabin rooms. They have tried to make the rooms more, but the walls are very thin so if you are sensitive to noise you may be disappointed, the rooms are also tight to cozy. It was clean and did provide a cabin feel. Also there was effort to upgrade the feel...TV, nice comforter, remodeled bathroom etc. Our room was originally quoted at $149, but they gave it to us for $120 so we did get a deal, but it still seemed a little pricey for just a step above camping. We ate in the restaurant which takes advantage of the amazing view, but the restaurant is large and had virtually no guests and yet the service was just average....server unaware of items on menu, another table sent back their food, a little pricey, servers initially confused over who would take care of us resulting in neither making it happen without some wait. But again we wanted and hoped it would be excellent and the staff were nice and personable. I think in the end we want it to be excellent more than either the management or the dollars will allow. In the end our family did enjoy the rustic ambiance, the view and the hope of what it offered. I am not sure anything else in town would have been better. So go for it and enjoy the rustic nature, the swing at the fireplace, the view of the lake and the desire for it to be just a bit more.

Don't you hate it when you find a place that has so much going for it and it could rate Excellent, but it doesn't make it for various reasons? This is that place. I have been here about 7 or 8 times over the years, and it never quite made it. I always hoped for a better experience, but for whatever reason it came up short. First I'll start with the lodge. The building is pretty with a big round fireplace in the center. With the elevation, even in June it is nice to enjoy the fire in the evening while waiting for a table. They used to have someone playing guitar and singing on weekend nights. We went up to see Wendy Woo play and it was awesome. The food in the restaurant is generally very good. We once had a desert with cinnamon ice cream and found out the ice cream was Blue Bell. We used to live in Houston and Blue Bell was our local ice cream that they did not sell outside of Texas. The GL Lodge had it flown in to make this certain desert. Get a seat in front of the windows if it is still daylight. I would give the lodge and restaurant a 4.0-4.5. The service is hit or miss. If you are in the area and want a lunch or early dinner, you should give it a try. Now for the bad. I have stayed in the cabins three times and I HATED the experience. As everyone else says, the walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING outside. The cars are right in front of the cabins, so car alarms were going off, slamming of doors, people talking - everything everyone else mentioned - is going on right outside. Only it feels like it is in your cabin. The first time I didn't know any better. The second time I thought I could pick a better cabin location. There was a wedding going on and there were a lot of people drinking that were very loud into the wee hours of the morning. Normally, I would just get dressed and join them, but it was a family outing and the kids were with us. Third time I brought a little speaker for my Ipod and played music quietly all night. That seemed to help. Even with that improvement, the cabins are dated and not as clean as I would like. My advice - Go for the lodge and skip the cabins.

We stayed for two nights in August; the two-queen bed cabin was not large, but was comfortable enough for four family members, the room and bathroom were clean, and the wifi was Ok. We didn't have a view from our room, but we were just few steps up from the main building from where the view was magnificent. The lodge is welcoming and the dining room overlooking the lake is perect for a relaxing dinner. The food is very good, and don't miss the their trout.
The breakfast buffet is average.
Moreover, the lodge is a very good base for exploring the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Very good experience.

Taking the advice of a person on Tripadvisor we asked for cabin 18 ( attached to 17). There are only a few cabins with a view from the front porch. The view overlooking the lake was beautiful. The main lodge is beautiful. (I would give that and the food an Excellent). If you do not stay here you should at least stop in and see the lodge. There are no rooms in the lodge
Having been to many Parks, this cabin was a bit disappointing ( would give them an average). The biggest complaint is that you can hear the people next door. They were not roudy people. Just talking in a normal voice, and walking around. When I met them outside I asked if they could hear us and they said yes.
The other complaint is the bunk bed. There is a double under a single, and the double is not very big. We are usually comfortable in a double, this one wasn't. Room was dusty.
There are nice features such as a fridge, microwave, TV.

Room Tip: Cabins 17 and 18 are two of the only ones with a view

We were at the lodge in September the same weekend of the floods in Colorado. We were supposed to stay two nites at the lodge but only ended up staying one because the Rocky Mountain Forest was closed. There was a wedding at the lodge the nite we left and it looked like it was going to be so pretty that we almost stayed another nite just to get a peak!

The lodge was a very very pleasant surprise. It was quaint and homey with a terrific gathering fire pit. The views from the lodge were so relaxing and you could open your own window for open air viewing as well. The food was AMAZING. We ate so much at lunch that we didn't have dinner! We did enjoy the breakfast buffet as well although we had to wait almost 15 minutes for more syrup. Costs were quite reasonable for the meals we received.

The cabins are very quaint and comfortable. We could hear elk trumpeting from our front porch! It is a short walk to town where there are many eateries and bars and shopping and ice cream.

Last but not least, we left something in our cabin and the manager made sure it got shipped to us -at cost only- within 24 hours of our phone call. WONDERFUL service.

Room Tip: We had a room with a double bed way in the back towards the forest. Stay there to be closer to the...
