“Terrible reception”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2013

Pulled into town at 8pm looking for a room, stopped by there to get one and we were about to get the room when she said oh no smoking unless you go all the way to the parking lot. No smoking on the patio or the decks. I said well no thank you, she even followed me into the parking lot where my husband was just to make sure we weren't. I didn't know she was the local town police. VERY RUDE!!! Thankful I didn't throw her my money. Went and stayed at another lodge that had nice chairs and ashtrays right outside the door.

If this is #1, I would hate to see the other hotels in Grand Lake. We stayed for one night and had to pay in advance (like 2 months in advance). When we went to the desk to check in, we were greeted with "Check out is at 10:00, and no pets in the room." (Is that like "Welcome to Grand Lake?" And who has a check out of 10 a.m.?) The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but that is about the only positive thing I can say. The walls were thin, there was no clock or radio in the room, no refrigerator. There were no shelves in the bathroom to put any personal items. The lighting was very dim in the room. The "basket of goodies" that people have referred to are free samples the management got from who knows where. It was more like a Motel 6 (not that I've every stayed in one) than a highly-rated establishment. If it were $80 or $90 a night, I could understand. But for $150, I expected more.

This condo was perfect for the family. It was clean, beds were comfortable and kitchen was fully furnished. Views of Grand Lake and Mountains were featured from both levels. The Riviera staff were very responsive and friendly. Best vacation our family has had in years. Teens enjoyed access to town center, shops and in-house Wi-Fi. Best activity was rental of 12-person pontoon from marina on adjoining Shadow Mountain Lake.

My cousin and his wife and my husband and I stayed in The Treehouse for 2 nights recently. It was very nice with comfortable beds. The pillows might have been lacking, but honestly was standard for any hotel. The kitchen was nicely appointed with a dishwasher, full side-by-side refrigerator, utensils and dishes, and even a wine opener. (And should you want fondue forks, they are there too. (wink))

We may have had minor complaints about little things, but when we checked out we told them we'd broken 2 of the wine glasses and were ready to pay for our damages, only to be told not to worry about it. So our minor complaints were erased and already forgotten.

We'd definitely stay here again.

This hotel was featured on Hotel Impossible on the Travel Channel. We stayed in the room they renovated in the show (unit 6) and it is cute, clean and comfortable. I cannot vouch for the other rooms, but was told they all have new carpet and paint.

One of the few area hotels with air conditioning, it also has some if the best views from a nice deck with rocking iron chairs and a charming swarm of humming birds.

A great stay in a really cool town.

Thanks for staying with us and for the wonderful review! We have replaced the bedding and painted an accent wall in all 16 motel rooms, and have replaced the flooring in 8 with plans to do the remaining 8 within the next year. We also replaced the carpet at all 6 of our large lakeside cabins and have begun renting out our Lake House! FYI -- that wasn't air conditioning you felt, that was fresh mountain air.

Couldn't ask for anything more! Room was large, newly remodeled with nice quality linens and clean! Extra touches of refrigerator, microwave, snack basket, Keurig coffee maker and free toiletries in the room. Great location on the lake with nice patio to enjoy the views. Location is right I the center of town AND right on the lake. Great little coffee shop around the corner for breakfast.

My husband & I love Grand Lake & have been staying there for over 6 years, and have stayed all over town & in the country as well. We appreciate the small town attitude & hospitality that we experience there. The Riviera staff is very accomodating & kind. And oh, the view from our motel room... There is none like it...Rocky Mountains & lake. We had a very nice clean suite with a good deal of privacy & many thoughtful amenities. I love the Keurig in the room... so nice to have that first cup of coffee before leaving the room. I also noticed a coffee bar in the lobby. You are next door to everything from this motel. The nice bakery & coffee shop is literally next door & the center of town a block away, and the Lake is your front yard. You park your car & walk, and it is a delightful adventure. I would highly recommend it to someone wanting the conveniences of a motel & the lake view. They are doing upgrades to the rooms with new bedding (beds are very comfortable, slept great), carpet, tile and paint, and using the eco-friendly beetle kill pine trim for a more rustic mountain look. Highly recommend for a couple or family. This motel has a unique location, being the only lakeside motel in Grand Lake, so it is a truly special place. GL has a long history of being a summer getaway for the affluent from Denver, so actually being on GL is special as there are few homes under a million dollars on the lake. The price of a motel room seems pretty reasonable for the view.

Room Tip: Get on the website & look at all the room locations. They have facilities all over town, ours wa...
