The Rapids lodge and Restaurant is a wonderful, charming place to enjoy three days or so. Built in 1915 (or thereabouts), it is standing, living history. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. Each room is a little different and offers its own character. It is cozy and quaint, in every wonderful sense. The floors creak, the doors sometimes do and the bed may creak also, but to us, it was part of the charm. Perhaps our enchantment with the Rapids is due to the staff. Friendly, courteous and always efficient.

The restaurant was also very good.

Room Tip: If you want a characterless box with a larger room and a wide screen tv, don't stay here. If yo...

Grand Lake is one of our favorite places - low key, not so commercialized - the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. The Rapids Lodge has been a longtime fixture in this little town - and they've done a nice job with the lodge rooms - we stayed on the 2nd floor - room was decorated Victorian style and windows overlooked the river - what a wonderful sound to go to sleep to.

Grand Lake has always been a bit short on quality restaurants - but the restaurant at the Rapids was way above par - a short but quality menu, a great bar - and tables alongside the river - it was the perfect getaway for the weekend.

This is a beautiful, small lodge that is very close to downtown Grand Lake. When you are in the front of your rooms, you feel like you are far away from the town. It is beautiful. There was wildlife to watch for as you sat on their comfortable benches right up next to the inlet. It is an awesome place for a get away.

Rapids Lodge is a great place to relax and enjoy the Rocky Mountains.
It is an old historic lodge in Grand Lake , CO.
It sits right on the Tonahutu Creek. You can eat lunch/dinner on the outside patio.
Staff friendly , helpful & accommodating.
Dinner is excellent with a variety always fresh.
Lunch is good also, potato salad not recommended. Should serve fries with hamburger.
Overall a great find!

While the room was quite clean and charming, "historic" translated as a creaking bed that woke you each time you rolled over and that was only if you could get to sleep with the roar of a large exhaust fan outside the one small window in the room. This, in a room without air conditioning so you were forced to keep the window open at night. The fan ran 24/7. We enjoyed the staff though and are considering staying again - only NOT in the lodge itself....maybe in one of the cabins which looked roomy, were far enough away from the main building and river to be quiet at night. They also had more than a single window!

Room Tip: Avoid the river side of the main lodge if you want to sleep. The exhaust fan is large and noisy enou...

This is the second time we have stayed at the Rapids Lodge in Grand Lake. We had a suite in the building across the parking lot from the main hotel on both occasions. We were very satisfied with the accomodations. The suite had a large sitting area, a galley type kitchen off the sitting area and a separate nice sized bedroom and bath. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The sitting room furniture was somewhat spartan but serviceable. The kitchen was adequately stocked with cooking utensils and dinnerware. You will need to bring any condiments other than salt and pepper yourself. On this last visit we stayed for a week and cooked most our meals in the suite with no problem. The lodge is perfectly located within walking distance of everything you would want to see or do in Grand lake. The staff was friendly and helpful. We brought our dog with us on this trip and that worked out great as well. The river is soothing - a great place to unwind!

Room Tip: Not every room is pet friendly so be sure to ask for one if you are bringing a pet.

I booked a room in the Rapids Lodge with some trepidation after reading the mixed reviews here. We stayed in the Columbine Room (#2), the Lodge's smallest room. I was of course pleasantly surprised to find everything better than expected. Every staff person we interacted with was incredibly pleasant and helpful, starting with the people we talked to on the phone (great advice from another here about calling and discussing room options since they have many buildings and configurations). So perhaps the cranky owner mentioned previously is no longer on the front line with customers?

Our room itself, though small, was lovely. Lots of personal touches like shabby-chic styling mixed with antiques - more like a B&B room than a hotel. We were on the second floor facing the river, so we heard NO noise except the constant rushing of the stream outside our open window. The size of the room didn't matter to us much, because we didn't spend much time there. And don't worry that you don't have a balcony - you can always go outside on the property adjacent to the restaurant and sit on some chairs or a swing overlooking the river. We brought our own wine and cheese down every night!

And the best part was the price - the room was $85 per night because we booked multiple nights ($95 for one night) - plus a 10% off discount for the month of June if you mentioned the online ad at time of booking.

Room Tip: Highly recommend a room that is on the river side, even if you don't have a balcony. If you...
