I just stayed at the Gateway Inn again. I stayed there about 5 years ago, just expecting a hotel room and really enjoyed my stay. I’ve been there 4 times since, once with my wife and three kids and other times with friends. Everybody I’ve been with loves it.

Things I like:

Pretty much in Grand Lake, but overlooking it with a view of the mountains and the lake from the main room, the big deck outside that room as well. I call it a lobby, but it is a big area with high ceilings, a bar, some games, windows with views and a nice fireplace. It’s very comfortable to be in, with friends or with my kids (although i usually only see children occasionally) When we go out to dinner and do something in town I often just look forward to getting back to the inn and be with people there, hang out, watch TV, play the sliding puck game, board games, read, etc

The rooms are nice. Clean, things seem new and clean, and the beds very comfortable. It always seems quiet. The furniture is new but is made out of debarked tree limbs and logs, very cool. The ceilings are high, ventilation is good and the water was warm and stayed warm.

The decorations and furnishings around the Inn are interesting and add alot. They lock it up at about 10 but it’s easy to get in with your key. It feels pretty secure.

Downstairs they have a conference room, very nice facility, they have a very clean outdoor whirlpool, big enough for 6-8 people, with awesome views. They have a sauna and an exercise room, very clean though I didn’t use them - planned to but just didn’t have time. The bar is great and they have some food, but it’s pretty basic though good quality. Usually stay about 2-3 nights.

I haven’t stayed in the rooms with a view, they’re a bit more and I’m usually not in my room that much.

I’m giving it 5 stars. Not because it was perfect in every way, but it was perfectly balanced: clean rooms, good sleep, good price, great time, fast free wifi, etc. and the can’t wait to stay there again factor.

Thank you for writing a review and being thorough! We are very happy that you love our hotel that you have come back so many times! This hotel is family friendly but for the most part you see more kids staying here in the summer when they are out of school. The sliding puck game is called a shuffle board table that we have had since this place open. We updated regularly and strive on keeping the place clean as possible. Hope you see you again soon!

On every occasion we had a chance to speak with the staff we were ignored, argued with, or dismissed. We were just having a little getaway weekend. The directions to the hotel were so far off track that we actually passed the sign and didn't see it because we were looking the wrong way. When we called, the hotel staff was incredulous, rude and argumentative. The entrance to the hotel when we finally found it was covered in snow and ice which was not a problem on entering but later when we attempted to leave we slid three feet into the road. We realized that was because there is a maintained and groomed snowmobile trail crossing the enterance...on both the front and back of the hotel. We slid down the driveway as well in our AWD Suburu as the ice and steepness combined to make it impossible not to slide. The decor was nice and not as our room had log furniture but no art and the straight back chairs were the only place to sit...no comfy chair. No restaurant. The whole hotel was so hot we had to use the air conditioner to even sleep. The parking lot around the hotel door was icy and unmaintained. The hotel has beautiful interior decor with animal displays and a lovely bar area with great views but the service was non-existant. We will not return.

Room Tip: Don't sleep on the parking side as sonw mobiles roar in and out even after midnight.

Our family finally made it up to Grand Lake for a winter weekend. We had to cancel twice this past fall due to weather and RMNP closure. We were given 12 months to use our deposit but chose to see what the winter was like. We were so pleased! GL is a "winter wonderland." The hotel staff helped us with suggestions of things to do with the kids. Ice skating in the park and tubing at the Nordic Center were FREE! We rented snowmobiles for 2 hrs on the hotel's suggestion and could not have had a better time! Very helpful staff.
The lodge is the newest in town but 13 yrs old according to staff. You would never know it was that old because they keep it up so well. Our log needs were comfy, and rooms had all we needed except microwave (one in lounge for guest use.) the lounge had games and was quiet in the evening when we returned from dinner. Free s'mores on the deck fire pit was a hit with the kids. The hot tub and sauna were a hit for my husband and I. It was so much fun at Gateway and GL that we just booked for Winter Carnival next weekend!
Some of the reviews on here were nothing like our experience. New to tripadvisor but I will "Beware" of grouchy reviewers! Lol

Booked two houses in Grand Lake and two rooms at the Gateway Inn for a family reunion in August. My mom passed away in July, and even with the death certificate, the comment from the hotel staff was "it's too late to cancel the reservation and how do we know 'she' was going to stay in one of 'our' rooms. (Homeowners gladly refunded with condolences through VRBO). Gateway Inn would rather you stay away and just send them your money. No Rocky Mountain Hospitality here. Stay away from this motel and go to Estes Park, Crested Butte, or Gunnison or rent a home from VRBO.

Room Tip: Don't book the motel, rent a house through VRBO.

A good hotel carries rustic to the point of uncomfortable. The beds are made out of logs with a mattress suspended between them. When you roll over in bed, you hit a log. The woodwork and furniture are beautiful, but overdo the theme. Nice bar with a stunning view. No restaurant or breakfast. Ample parking. Best place in town during winter months. In summer, shop around.
Cleanliness suspect as our bed had lots of dog hair on the bedspread.

Room Tip: Rooms with fireplace (gas) are nicest.
