My husband and I stopped in for Sunday brunch. We were on our way to 4 wheel La Plata Canyon. We were so glad we stopped! The breakfast was so amazing. Try the scone, the sweet cream and raspberry jam were over the top.

On a recent visit to Mesa Verde in Colorado, the Kennbec Cafe was recommended by our Innkeeper. A reservation was made for 7:30 for which we arrived at 7:20. We were seated around 7:45. The restaurant did indeed appear to be busy. We were promptly attended to by a male waiter and our drink order was taken and served. Appropriately, he returned and took our order. Appetizers were served on a timely basis, however, the entree did not appear and the waiter, on several occasions, told us they would be right out. An hour and 15 minutes later, we still had not received our entrees and the waiter had disappeared. A waitress who happened by, offered us more ice tea and we inquired as to the problem. She returned ( not our waiter) to tell us that there had been two "8 tops" that had arrived just before we were seated and this was the reason for the delay? She also said several times that we should hold him accountable?? After 10-15 minutes more our entrees arrived one at a time and were delivered by our original waiter. While the food was well prepared and delicious-the service was indeed suboptimal.
When the bill arrived, it was delivered by the waitress and we never saw the waiter again. There was nothing more that we would have accepted as compensation, however, it was never offered as well and there was no intervention or apology offered by the management staff for this dismal service.
I realize that we were visitors to the region and more than likely will never be in the area again, but this is not an excuse in my opinion. The total time for dining was well over 2 hours and we were the only guests left seated on an outdoor terrace. Very poor and a low point of our visit to the area.

We experienced a very good meal from a varied dinner menu along with some reasonably priced wine offerings. Our server was quite helpful guiding my wife through her dietary restrictions. If you have the opportunity to dine at Kennebec, give it a try.

We we referred to this wonderful resturant 10 years ago by Blue Lake Ranch and have returned every time we are in the Durango area. The chef always has a great offering, the staff are exceptional. We love this place and look forward to another visit.

We heard about kennebec cafe for a couple of years before trying it. We go to Durango, CO every august and have many places to goose from to eat. This year we decided to make the drive of 36 mi to try kennebec. It was worth the trip a beautiful restaurant in a calm and serene setting. They have a good variety of. Item to choose from. I had a Small plate of chicken breast covered in an olive/mushroom sauce that was delicious. Plenty of food to fill me up with room for a fabulous dessert. My husband hada steak special that was very tasty, but he was a little disappointed in the quality of the beef. Our dessert had been made only an hour prior to it being served. It was a fresh peach coulis with vanilla ice cream. The owner, Barbara, makes all the desserts. Our choice was fabulous.
