Trip Advisor Review
I spent 4 nights at the Silver Lake Lodge June 12 - 16 with my sister-in-law, who was visiting from the Caribbean. We had a great time, and I can't say enough about the comfort and home-away-from-home ambience of the place. First of all, the Lodge is situated at 10,500 ft, one house away from the top end of a mountain road which twists and winds up from Idaho Springs, CO (about 7,500 ft). You are really IN the mountains here, not viewing them from a distance.
The Lodge itself is a beautiful log building overlooking the little Silver Lake, and with lovely mountain views. The place is just so comfortable! Our room had a little balcony with a mountain view and a great bed. The lounges, with their overstuffed chairs and sofas and recliners, the Colorado mountain decor, the large balcony (great for stargazing at night too) all make you want to relax and enjoy just being there . The food was very good, and we loved the dining room, where we could sit by the window and look at the mountains and the forest while we ate. There was always something to nibble on and drink throughout the day, and wine and cheese in the evenings.
There are hikes that you can go on, including one to St. Mary's glacier, which we did by the full moon. We also went on some driving trips to nearby tourist attractions, like the summit of Mount Evans, Georgetown and Guanella Pass. Jim is a wonderful host, a goldmine of information and a big part of why guests who started of as perfect strangers ended up noisily exchanging experiences at the breakfast table and feeling like friends. The best thing I can say about the lodge is that I can't wait to go back there with my husband. Highly recommended.
