“Take a lesson and for Scott!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

Take a lesson and ask for Scott. We had a great half-day morning lesson with Scott and learned so much. We were impressed with the food options and rental facilities and enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of Araphaoe Basin but didn't really enjoy the lack of true "green" runs. The green runs are much more advanced than on other mountains, however, the lesson was great!

“Love the tree runs and bowls!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

A-Basin is that little resort that always performs! We love the atmosphere, got a great deal on lift tickets and skied the back bowls for most of the day. The Bear Mountain lodge is superb for lunch or warming up when it's too cold.

“Good above treeline skiing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

This was our second visit to Arapahoe. From the Last Chance (free) parking lot we could have walked to the Arapahoe Base area but opted for the shuttle bus. It is a two minute ride. Breakfast at Legands Cafe was filling, but not gourmet. I had scrambled eggs and potatoes served hot, cafeteria style, and Donna had blueberry pancakes off the grill. At $22 including coffee/tea, breakfast is inexpensive compared to other ski resorts. Climbing the stairs in ski boots balancing a tray of food can be tricky but nothing spilled. Upstairs is a good area for families. There is lots of seating and is very relaxed, though, of course, there are only a few windows that face the slope at the end of this A-Frame shaped building. Not much of view in the middle seating area where we ate. We planned our day and ate. Also, there was no wait for the clean restrooms downstairs. Lines were short at any of the lift ticket windows too. $72 each for non-discounted lift tickets seems relatively reasonable. I can’t comment on equipment rental as we brought our own gear. We headed to Montezuma Bowl to start the skiing day. Lift line waits were only a few minutes for both the Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Mountain lift on the way. Not bad. Larkspur offered a good blue run warm up. Next we scratched our skis on a few of the many rocks on the Mountain Goat Traverse to reach the Northern Spy run. The 13” in the last 24 hours made for hard work. It was back to the Zuma lift, which only stopped once during our four rides up. It offers good views of the runs on either side of the bowl. Other Black Runs we liked included: Long Chute (long), Falcon (short), and Durrance (steep double black). The Zuma Cornice is offers good views and had few rocks. Larskpur and Columbine are both good groomed blues in the Montezuma Bowl. In all of Arapahoe, we like the above the tree line bowl skiing. Runs are well marked. The Snow Plume Refuge at the top of Lenawee Mountain has good views and is a good break spot between the Montezuma Bowl and front side runs. Falcon is a good short black on the front side and offered good views of the line of skiers made their way along the East-Wall Traverse taking advantage of the remaining powder. That East-Wall is on our list for the next visit. Arapahoe is a good value and is one of our favorites as it seems more relaxed, less rushed, and less crowded.

“Steep and Flat”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2014

Ratings of the Colorado Resorts I visited March 2014:
1- Vail

2- Keystone
3- Breckenridge
4- Arapaho Basin

I'm an intermediate-advanced snowboarder. If I was a skier I would probably like A basin more. There is only 1 express lift, and only a handful of lifts total. The terrain was either flat or super steep, so you would have to plow down the steep, then bomb through the flat. Not that fun, when I could have spent another day at Vail.

“great ski area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

A-Basin is a great ski area with a wide range of choices. There are cornices to huck. Moguls to attack, Bowls to enjoy. Love the tree skiing bordering Montazuma Bowl. The East Wall is great after a snowfall. There is a terrain park. And the food is very good.
