“Wonderful setting”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

In an area where there is not a lot to choose from, this site is great. We arrived a little early but the Doris was accommodating and we were able to take a nice hike on the property. we then could sit out on the veranda and have a glass of wine and we looked out over the lovely setting. There really is no place else to eat in the area, but Doris is a good cook and we had a delicious dinner and breakfast. The room is fine, we had a nice balcony and it is clean. Our only regret was that we did not get to see the Northern Lights the one night we were there. Other guests were up at 2:am the night before and had good viewing. It was a little early in the season, so viewing was spotty. I highly recommend Bear Paw for it's surrounding and hospitality.

Room Tip: go for a balcony if the weather is good

The Bear Paws was without doubt one of the highlights of our 7500km round trip. What a find. So having travelled from Vancouver to Alaska and experiencing some awful accommodation we decided to skip some towns on the return trip. This meant driving longer distances to find somewhere nice to stay. Bear Paws was a great find, our only regret is that we should have stayed longer. Tony the host is a natural raconteur, we loved his stories and hope he one day commits them to a book. Nothing was too much trouble and he made us feel very welcome. The food was great, Doris certainly knows how to cook and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner, good food and wine. The room was cosy, comfortable and immaculate. We slept like logs, woke refreshed and we genuinely regretted we had not booked in for longer. The situation is wonderful, peaceful and interesting. Highly recommended. We hope to return.

Room Tip: All the rooms are peaceful and immaculate.

The Bear Paw Resort was such a wonderful delight! We were traveling from Arizona to Anchorage, and spent 2 nights at Bear Paw. The buildings and structure were amazing, and made more amazing when one hears Tony's stories of how he built the place. Amazing. We had dinner there 2 nights and breakfast 2 mornings. Doris, the cook does an amazing job of providing very tasty food. And the dessert the first night was to die for!

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for some comfortable lodging and peaceful time.

Room Tip: Suggest upstairs room with view over the back.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Bear Paw Ranch Resort, just 5 min north of Iskut, and an hour south of Dease Lake, on the west side of BC Highway 37. HIGHLY Recommended!
Your hosts know how to keep you happy, encouraging you to relax, no matter how much work you have to get done, and the food they serve is spectacular.
The decor is done in a ‘hunter special’ so if animal remains bother you, keep moving, but if you like things like crafted moose antlers and a bear skin on the wall, Tony will find a place for you in his humble abode.
If you are staying for dinner (RECOMMENDED) let them know before noon so they can have enough prepared for all the guests. Don’t bother looking for a menu, because you get whatever comes out of the kitchen that night. The night I was there we had buffalo roast – so tender I did not need a knife. Dinner is $22.50 and well worth it.
I had a room on the third floor with a balcony so it was one of the pricier rooms at $110.00 + taxes, and worth double the cost (don’t tell Tony, he will raise the rates).

Room Tip: Balconies on the 3rd floor. Tell them early if you want dinner.

We were happy with the Bear Paw Ranch Resort. Our hotel room was really more like an apartment with 2 bedrooms and a kitchen/living area. It was very clean and the manager was friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed to find out that there was no hot tub as one of the websites suggested. However, we enjoyed our stay. It was a bit expensive ($160 + taxes), but most places in the area are.
