Arrived here pretty late July last year. Beautiful and really charming, both the owners and the hostel itself. The rooms are all different, with different themes. The bathroom and showers are clean and nice. Easy to get good advice on where to travel or stay later on, and they have a wonderful huge dining table which easily gets sociable.

After a deep south welcome from Wild Bill with the blues playing all day in the background - you know this is going to be an experience! Good facilities and a relaxing atmosphere with some interesting residents this is a highly recommended place to stay.

The place is pretty in down (the kitchen was nice though ). And I expect it not to be the nicest since you know ...it is a hostel and the rooms are cheap . However the worst part are the owners ! Total jerks and very rude . I think they need to get into a business where they never need to deal with people .

I stayed here for a few nights after one of the race weekends this summer. The hostel was full of other runners and bikers at the time, so the camaraderie was hard to beat and something you won't find at a hotel. The hostel itself was very clean, neat and comfortable. Quiet hours are respected and I slept well each night. The big, comfortable common area is a great place to relax with a book and Wild Bill's breakfast is hard to beat for $5. All in all, an extremely positive experience. I've already reserved a bed for next summer!

We have stayed in the Leadville Hostel for our team camp twice. The owners seemed excited and welcoming to us when they heard that we would completely fill their rooms, however, upon our arrival they treated my group of young adults like 10 year olds. They would make mean rude comments about how the kids were doing everything wrong. They were first told that only 13 kids were allowed to eat at one time, but if they wanted to, they could take a plate outside and eat at the picnic tables. When more then 13 kids came they were treated rudely by the cook and female owner, even though they offered to eat outside. The tension created made everyone at the hostel feel uncomfortable. The rooms were fine. The Woman owner was not friendly at all and the man had a strange sense of humor that made you feel really uncomfortable. They don't treat young people very well. Beware if you have kids attending the hostel with you as they will probably be treated similarly.
If we ever come back to Leadville, we will NOT be staying at this hostel!

It was the first time we ever stayed in the Hostel and it will not be the last! We stayed in a room with a private bath that was clean and comfortable. We happened to be in Leadville on a VERY busy weekend. The Hostel was bustling with people but the owners, Bill and Kathy, had everything under control and organized! The price was reasonable and we were even able to purchase an all you can eat breakfast of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, french toast, OJ and coffee for $5.00 a person!

My sister and I visited this hostel for a few days while exploring a couple of the local 14ers. Overall, the experience was pleasant and we'd be happy to return again.

This place is stowed on a residential corner of Leadville, a few blocks from the main strip of the town. There is plenty of parking in front of the building and the walk to downtown is relatively painless, provided you acclimate well to the air in the 10,000+ feet of elevation (Leadville is the highest incorporated city in America). We were welcomed by a light late-summer sprinkle as we walked in via the comfy front porch.

Inside there are a plethora of mostly "don't-do" signs that, while keeping the place very well-organized, take away from the homey experience the colorful rooms and cozy living areas aim to provide. My sister and I stayed in different dorms, which we both found relatively comfortable and quiet (per the rules). Plusses for electrical outlets near the bunks and large lockers (with refundable deposit). But check your key... it may open multiple lockers.

The kitchen and the bathrooms were very clean. But plan ahead if you are leaving early, as sink/counter space can get a little crowded as folks wake up and prepare for their hikes. Most of the guests were friendly fellow backpackers, so even if space is limited folks seem willing to compromise.

The service was fine overall. As stated earlier, the owner is an alpha type who doesn't always employ courtesy to the greatest of his abilities. But his right hand man (whose name escapes me), a grizzled, ball-cap-wearing gentleman was extremely helpful and had a great sense of humor. I'd recommend going through him for the necessaries, if possible.

Also, this is a great base location if you are hiking Mts. Elbert, Massive, La Plata, etc. Gorgeous views!
