We turned off the freeway into Mancos to see whether there was anywhere we could get lunch on our way to Mesa Verde National Park. The Absolute Bakery & Cafe drew us in, and we were so glad we ate there. They were very busy while we were there, so we did have to wait awhile to get our food, but it was totally worth it. Our sandwiches, served on bread they bake themselves, were excellent, and the freshly made potato salad and cole slaw served with them were both very good. While waiting, we enjoyed looking around at the funky and eclectic items on display throughout the restaurant. This particular trip was a month long, and we agreed that this was one of our two favorite meals during our entire trip. Of course, we had to buy two goodies from the bakery case when we left. When we indulged ourselves with them later in the day, we wished we had bought more. Absolute is absolutely worth the the stop. When there, visit the local artists gift shop next door -- one of the best assortments of art and craft products I have seen, and all reasonably priced.
