I love it. Yes it's older in apperance but that is part of the charm. The staff was very nice.I did not have a problem with wifi connection and they even provided firewood at a very small charge. I am staying there again.

El Colorado Lodge’s accommodations are first-rate. Jeremy demonstrated excellent costumer service and made us feel right at home. We especially appreciated the dog friendliness. All the cabins have a gorgeous view of Pikes Peak to the West and Rampart Range to the North. I can tell you from my experiences in Manitou Springs that the El Colorado Lodge is something to write home about on your post card. The property is well maintained and the cabins are decorated in a Southwest decor. Our cabin offered an authentic beehive fire place that burned clean and warm. Mature Ponderosa Pines draped our views. (If you’re looking for new construction this is not for you.) A red fox lives in the vicinity and shows-up around dusk for viewing. The El Colorado Lodge is the only place that we’ll stay when traveling thru that part of Colorado. It’s truly a treasure rich in Pikes Peak History.

Our group of five spent one night in a cabin at El Colorado Lodge in November - 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We had read earlier reviews about this place on Trip Advisor and I admit, we had our doubts about staying, but we drove by the place, and the cabins and grounds looked nice, so we just stopped in, without a reservation. The lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful and offered to show several cabins to us; we stayed in the largest cabin, which can comfortably hold 7-8 people. The cabin had a charming, cozy little kitchen and a large bathroom, and everything was super clean - the bathroom sparkled - no gross grout, mildew or mold anywhere. No bad smells. The heating/air conditioning units worked great. Beds were comfortable. These cabins aren't fancy, so you're not going to bump into Paris Hilton out by the pool, but we looked at several and they were clean and well kept. Most have fireplaces and they all look very cozy. This is a historic old place with stucco and pine log exteriors; inside, the cabins have the big pine beams running along the ceiling. It was November, so we couldn't try the pool, but they do have a nice volleyball area and lots of picnic tables; many cabins have decks with a table. There's a great breakfast place right across the street; you can walk. This place is also just a stone's throw from the Garden of the Gods. Kids are going to love these rustic (in a good way), 'old-west' looking cabins. One of our favorite cabins was a two-story unit on the northwest end; I can't remember the number (32 or 35?). Anyway, we couldn't stay there because it only slept four, but it was a neat place, with one bedroom up and one bedroom down. I should mention that our large cabin had two tv's, which is great for families. Also, though several other cabins were occupied, the place was quiet and we didn't see any derelicts around. I did ask the lady at the desk about the earlier Trip Advisor reviews I had read, and she said that she was one of the new owners, had purchased the lodge just in the last two or three years, and that they have done a lot of renovating. From what we saw and experienced, I would say that El Colorado Lodge has been improved considerably. We would definitely stay again. El Colorado Lodge is a fun and unique place - don't be afraid to stay here!

  • Liked — The cabins were cozy and clean.
  • Disliked — Have more southwest art on the walls.

Adorable outside. True. Immaculate in appearance. True. Literally sandwiched between a major highway and a thoroughfare. True. BUT. Smells like mildew/mold. Checked out numerous rooms due to this, some had been heavily Lysoled to overcome odor; still a problem. Managment difficult, and unwilling to address problem. Thankfully, reservation was made through credit card company. Could not breathe well there, could not stay. Unfortunate problem, likely difficult for owner to address simply. Does not feel healthy. We have stayed in many older locations without this problem, in fact on this same trip.

my daughter and i stayed at the el colorado lodge last week for one night, and it was not what the reviews claimed.
the area around the hotel was very run down, chinese massage parlor about a block down and across the street. my cabin backed up to the highway, but is was not loud. the cabin was nice sized, parking right outside. the bathroom was super small, no room for more than a toothbrush. shower was sort of strange, the floor was below the level of the bathroom floor, by 8 inches. the linens were clean, but appeared very old. we stayed in cabin 21, do not plan on anyone sleeping on the futon!
it was so flat, like a hard lumpy old sack. the cover was dirty and sort of gross. with some extra effort, this hotel could be very charming, but the way it is, i will not go back.

on the bright side, the staff was very nice and so friendly. they gave me a coupon to the brairhurst manor, saved me $25 on the $125 bill. they gave me maps and lots of info on local attractions and shopping. if i did go back to this hotel, it would be for the kind staff. spend another $40 and stay in a historic inn downtown. much better area.

  • Liked — staff at front desk, they are so nice.
  • Disliked — price for quality of room. should of been half the price.

There were 31 people in our family, ranging from age 5 to 75+. It's always a challenge to find accommodations that will fit the sizes of family groupings. The El Colorado filled the bill with their various sized cabins.

We found that the Lodge has undergone some updating since we first inspected the place last year. The pool area and the areas for gathering worked out well for our large group.

While the Lodge has limited internet capability, those who just HAD to work while on vacation were able to accomplish that.

The staff was very helpful in planning catering service, as well as a photographer to capture the group.

All in all, we had a very successful reunion and the El Colorado staff helped to accommplish that.
