“Must Do With Kids”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

After visiting Manitou Springs for many years, I went on the Cog Railway for the first time. There were teen kids in our travel party. My advice- get on the internet and read all about this before you do it, so you will know what to expect. Do call and make reservations in advance- we did it two days before and that was good enough. Luckily they do have a huge free parking lot. Do use the restroom facilities before your ride up to the top. If you order food and drink before your ride, know that you better finish it. Supposedly they do not allow food and drink on the train, except bottle water that they sell. You should have water with you while going UP bc of the altitude change, etc. Non of us had any problems during the ride up or down. The train did go to the top. I believe we had about 45 minutes before the trip down. It was a great time to take some photos- great views. Inside the facility who will find restrooms, snack bar items and misc. If they are still selling the donuts....they taste o.k. The kids wanted to eat them bc they had heard if you don't eat one it will "shrink" by the time you get back down to the bottom, bc of altitude. Well, all of the donuts were eaten at the top so who knows about the donut story. It is a beautiful ride both up and down. Remember, there are NO restroom facilities on the cog railway. I would say that it is something to do at least once, especially with kids. But honestly, if vacationing at another time of year, I would be tempted to do it again to experience it with snow. Fun. If you go to the cog website, you might find some coupons to print off.

“Awesome day on the COG”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

The ride up and down was both entertaining and informative thanks to our conductor Kevin who made the whole trip more lively! I do recommend bringing a snack or drink or buying one from the gift shop at the bottom though, at the top the soda machine didn't work and there was hardly any snacks made. The COG does not operate the summit house so its not a blemish on them. But it was an awesome experience with a great conductor! Oh and definitely bring a camera to take lots of photos! Lots of great things to see just dress warm too! Much colder up at the top than in town!

“Fun for the family! ”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

We had a great time on a really cold day! It was with great anticipation we boarded the cog train and were only mildly disappointed that we couldn't go to the top because the wind was blowing too much snow on the tracks. The views were outrageous!
We were able to get out at one point for 30 minutes and play in the snow.

We appreciated that we were partially refunded since the train could not go to the top. Be sure to make reservations and see if you can sit on the ABC side of the train, especially if you are only able to go part way.

The staff was fantastic and since we had to make changes to our original reservation we appreciated their willingness to accommodate. We paid for parking but no one ever took our voucher so we may have purchased for nothing.

Be sure to dress appropriately and bring your camera. One of our boys got a headache from the altitude but was fine other than that.

Glad we did it!

“Way more fun on the Cog”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

I had to move away from the Springs to come back and play tourist. This IS the one of a kind experience. I've been to the top of Pikes Peak many times before, even hiked it as a kid, but taking the Cog railway made it nostalgic.
