“Bad Attitude, Buddy!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2004

We left this stay very disappointed with the unsympathetic hospitality of the new management; it resulted in a very uncaring and dissatisfying stay. When we checked in, the innkeeper was very nice, and we thought we had found a good B&B-- At first. However, in the morning, we opted not to come downstairs for breakfast because we were exhausted. At 10 a.m., the hotel staff phoned us insisting that we come down "immediately" for breakfast since they were still holding it for us. (Breakfast was at 8 a.m.) We agreed to come down, and my 10-year-old daughter and I hurried to get downstairs. When we got there they told us that they had thrown our breakfast away. However, we could clearly see the breakfasts on the counter of their kitchen. If it isn't the epitome of bad service to make a small child cry, I'm not sure what is. $225 a night? Not worth it. When we checked out, the innkeeper was very snide and said "Sorry things didn't work out this morning," with a very "oh well" attitude, and not the professional attitude one would expect from a hotel manager. I give the B&B a good rating for the room, but a shabby rating for the treatment of its patrons. Take a pass... You can do better. After all, you're paying over $200 for it, and you're the guest.

I remember the day well as I had just arrived, my brother and I purchasing the Bed & Breakfast. The former owner, who was assisting me on how to operate the business was pretty much exhausted of the B & B business. When this occurred I was not happy but not knowledgeable enough to know better or correct him. Sorry this happened and hope you will come see what I have learned since 2004!

I read some good reviews on this B&B before booking our reservations, but I believe the people who wrote them must have stayed there a long time ago, things have really changed! When we arrived the exterior looked beautiful, but the interior was something altogether. Everything looked like it needed updating, dusting and a new interior decorator! On the website it did not show that the sunroom overlooked an RV Park. The room we stayed in had no airconditioning (this was July and 90+ degrees out). They should keep the doors closed to their kitchen......it was a cluttered mess. When we told the owners we were not happy with our accommodations, they did offer to switch our room, but we just wanted to leave because we were so uncomfortable with everything around us. They showed their displeasure with us in a very unbusinesslike manner and then we left. We found an absolutely beautiful place down the road called The Cliff House with wonderful accommodations and quality staff.

The Rockledge earns its 4 star rating without any question. The home is absolutely stunning with a view of Pike's Peak to match. Deana and Bob made our stay so enjoyable. We sincerely enjoyed talking to them. The breakfasts that we had each morning were delicious, homemade and served with style. The bed in the The El Ocaso Room was heavenly. I cannot say enough nice things about this B&B. Excellent location within easy driving distance to all of the tourist attractions. Downtown Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City and Colorado Springs are minutes away. So quiet, peaceful and relaxing. We loved it!!

We have stayed at the Red Crags twice now, and plan to return in the future. The rooms are beautiful, filled with treats and luxurious toiletries (We highly recommend the Teddy Rosevelt). The mansion is a joy to explore and relax in. We have yet to find a better breakfast than served here. Finally, the innkeepers are friendly, helpful and enjoyable to talk with.
