“Great Stay! Adorable Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed here July 2014 and had a wonderful time! We are both in our 20s and also saw families and other people our own age. The manager Charlie was super helpful not only with places to eat and things to do in town but helped out plan out the rest of our trip! This hotel looks older but is extremely clean and all of the staff we ran into was friendly. Great location for somewhere inexpensive and convenient. I felt safe and truly enjoyed my stay! Would definitely recommend you stay there

Room Tip: We roomed on the first floor for our own convenience

Manitou Springs is such a beautiful mountain town and there are lots of lodging choices. However, in peak season, lodging is also likely to be scarce if you haven't reserved a place weeks in advance. We chose the Silver Saddle mainly because it had room, after finding the Castle was full.

As motels go, the rooms are adequate. The basics are there, the beds are comfortable. There is a coffee pot and there's "real" coffee in the office in the morning. It's close to downtown and so access is easy to the main attraction of the town. The bathrooms are ridiculously cramped — the sink is outside the tub/shower and commode, thank goodness, with ample counter space. There is a hair dryer. The shower/tub and toilet "room" however, are cramped beyond belief. The door opens flush with the toilet allowing no space to move. I whacked my ankle two mornings in a row trying to get in the tub for a shower due to the crammed up-against-it position of the toilet.
Plumbing fixtures are old and a bit icky. The faucet in the tub was hung at a crooked angle! Secured, but completely crooked. The shower head old and icky.

Note to motels: Fer gawd's sake, update your plumbing. A clean and modern looking bathroom goes A LONG WAY to expecting any guest to ever return. An icky, old, worn bathroom is a guarantee I won't be back.

A/C was high up on the wall near the ceiling over the sink and required a stool to climb up and turn it on. They did, to their credit, provide a stool. I wonder if they also wonder about liability if someone falls off that thing just trying to turn on the A/C. Bad place to put it. It was not on when we came in, so the room was hot. It does work well after the climbing expedition.

Free WiFi, points for that. (Note to hotels that make you pay for it—even the motels provide it, you cheap-os!)

The motel is two stories. Advice: Do NOT stay on the first floor if you can avoid it. The noise from above is horrible. It seemed we had a football team up over us running and pounding from 6:00 am on. Overall, the place is noisy and the walls and ceilings thin.

Oh, and we went out to Pike's Peak and spent the day up there Sat. When we came back at 3:30 p.m, our room had not been tended to! We thought that was it, and got undressed to take a nap before dinner. Then, nearly 4 in the afternoon — bang, bang, bang comes the housekeeping knock on the door! THREE TIMES we shouted, "just a minute" as my partner struggled to get a robe and answer the door. Never mind, as the housekeeping staff simply barged in despite our calls to hold on!!!! Unbelievable. Apparently no English — not even enough to recognize our shouts, or just wait since we answered to have the door opened!!! Not cool, Silver Saddle, not cool. Hire some more housekeepers so they aren't invading rooms in late afternoon, and provide some instruction on what to do if guests respond to the knock. Like, ask them to LISTEN for responses!

Adequate in a pinch: yes. Would I voluntarily stay here again if there are other options? No.

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor to minimize noise.

He is an asset to that family run business! He even found my elderly dog and held him until we found them. The irony is that he had no idea the dog belonged to one of his guests. That's just the kind of guy he is!
I felt at home, as well as safe there.

This motel although an older style motel, is well kept and clean, and what ever short comings it may have is made up for in the staff . These guys are truly the friendliest staff I have ever come across in my 58 years of motels. We typically stay in hampton inns but got stranded here due to flooding and I would definitely return. If staying and need something ask for Charlie the finest young man I've run across in sometime. And wow what a view of garden of the gods !!

Room Tip: West side faces the garden of the gods

We have stayed at the Silver Saddle since 1993, and while it was very clean and we love the view, it has become more rundown since we stayed in 2012. The breakfast was minimal, price was higher, and hasn't been updated recently. WIFI wasn't working, and had to clean the filter ourselves before AC blew cold. Also wasn't impressed with old style tv's.

Beautiful views, nice facility.
Wonderful place. Relaxing atmosphere. We came from London, UK and we felled like at home during all stay. Clean rooms and beautiful view around the motel. One step from Garden of the Gods and free bus that will take you to main street with great restaurants and pubs. Amazing location with amazing staff. Can't wait to stay in this motel again.
