“Fun jeep tour”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

I totally enjoyed the jeep tour to Crystal Mill along a scenic, very bumpy road. Photographing Crystal Mill was fabulous. Our guide had lived in the area for >25 yrs., was very friendly, and made the trip just wonderful. The 4WD path to the mill is VERY rough and I was VERY glad that I didn't rent an ATV or jeep to try to do it on my own. Take the tour. It is reasonably priced and lots of fun. If you are a photographer, late afternoon is the best light.

“A ride worth every bounce!!”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

I recently took the tour to photograph the Crystal Mill and the fall colors. It was
spectacular! Couldn't have picked a better weekend for this. The views from 5 mile rocky
jeep trail were fabulous. Our guide and owner, Smitty, was wonderful. He patiently stopped along the way for us to take pictures. He was an incredible historian as well. I will definitely be returning!!

“Great Way to Get off the Beaten Path, Especially for Those with Limited Mobility”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

Crystal River Jeep Tours offers a great opportunity for visitors or even residents to get out on some of the prettier 4WD roads in the area and see rugged valleys that would otherwise only be accessible via a somewhat lengthy hike. The Crystal Mill and the valley it is located in are easily two of the most scenic attractions in region, and the jeep tour is a wonderful way to experience them.

We did the Crystal Mill Tour, which is 3 hours round trip with stops to explore both the Crystal Mill as well as the Town of Crystal.

This trip is great for individuals with limited mobility. As long as you are able to get into the jeep you can see everything the tour has to offer.

We found the driver to be both knowledgeable about the local history, as well as safe on the trickier 4WD terrain. The majority of the trip takes place in the valley floor alongside a creek, however the descent into the valley is via a one lane 4WD road with a long and steep drop-off to one side. It is dramatic but a little hair-raising!

The Jeep we were in sat 6 people in addition to a driver. Note that if the jeep is full, there is very little room for gear.

This outfit also offers a longer Lead King Loop tour, which is highly worthwhile as you get to see the Crystal Mill, as well as the Lead King basin, which boasts some of the best wildflowers in Colorado.

“Great side trip!”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

My brother and I thoroughly enjoyed the jeep trip to the Crystal Mill. I found out about the trip from a friend in Denver, who had gone on the same trip several years ago. The weather wasn't too co-operative on the day we went, but the scenery was spectacular anyway. Glen Smith, the driver, was thoughtful and kind. My brother has knee problems, so Glen made sure he was sitting in the front of the jeep, where there was more leg room. Ponchos were readily available for everyone. Although they didn't keep us too dry, getting soaked was, I think, part of the experience. Glen had lived in the area for many years, so he knew the history of the area (we didn't). This is a great trip for adults. The next time we are in Colorado we will go on a longer jeep trip. Highly recommended.

“3 hour tour to Crystal Mill”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

My daughter and I took the 3 hour tour. I personally have done this trip on foot but Smitty brought our jeep tour alive. So many interesting stories and descriptions of our mining history. Loved the tour and will recommend to all our friends. We had a great time. Thanks Smitty!!!
