We booked a table in the restaurant on recommendation of friends. We had not been here before so we were very pleased by the pub itself which was a lovely old pub, very welcoming and cosy. We were greeted as soon as we entered and given menus and told about the specials board. The choice of food was very good. We had the homemade Chicken Kiev from the specials board, the homemade Steak Burger, the Ribeye Steak and the Cod. All were excellent and served with lovely big chips. The service was very good and we would definately come again.

Booked a table for four adults for Sunday afternoon after reading reviews. Given a table in the restaurant area, which had two large simultaneous birthday parties going on. Children were running past the table and shouting, the poor staff had to dodge them to serve food intact ! the food was average for a set menu, just wish we had been informed on booking, as would not have travelled. Having said that, the waiting on staff were very pleasant and helpful, well done to them.

We hadn't been here for two years so we went for a birthday lunch. We decided against starters luckily, as the main course was huge! We both had chicken Kiev which came with a crisp coating which was light and not burnt. It had salad and coleslaw with it and a huge bowl of chunky chips. We did find room for dessert however, I had cheesecake and my friend had sticky toffee pudding. I love the way you are made to feel welcome and that nothing is too much trouble. I shan't wait such a long time to go again.

Just returned from the Royal Oak after managing to polish off a massive homemade burger!! Got to say it was fantastic!! Meaty and topped with delicious cheese and bacon. The accompanying chips were equally delicious as well, would highly recommend a visit!!!

This is a lovely country pub that offers a wide-ranging menu of excellent home cooked food. It's not cheap, with mains starting from around £12, but well worth it for the quality and the generous helpings. A starter and main is enough, unless you're my other half, who scoffs a pudding whatever! Veggie options are limited to 2, but for meat and fish eaters the choice is almost overwhelming. Highly recommended! There's a fine collection of old potties in the lounge bar too, to add a bit of quirkiness.
