if you're an outdoorsman, this is the nat'l forest in colorado to experience. crowds are minimal, except for july and august. sept is my favorite month because the tourists are gone and all the peaks and passes are hikable w/ no to little snow. lots of elk, grouse, minerals, fossils. on a typical hike in june or sept you might see 1-5 other people per day, but on the more remote trails solitude. many beaver dams make little ponds not on maps for great brook trout fishing.
