First, the management was extremely helpful. We arrived at the lodge pretty late, so the manager left the room key in an envelope outside the office. We dropped it off at the office the next morning.

We stayed in room # 4. The room had two full beds which worked well for three people. It was very clean and had a cozy mountain feel. Beds were comfortable. Slept great with the exception of the wind outside. Room also had a small TV, coffeemaker with coffee, and a heater that works VERY well (don't set the temp. too high).

The cafe was OK. Prices were mid-range. Pancakes were HUGE and delicious, but eggs were a little overdone.

We went snow-shoeing on the Lost Lake trail just a couple miles west of Nederland. I definitely recommend it.

This property is located a couple miles south of town and I crave the quiet location. As the other reviewers noted this is an older, more rustic property. It is a classic "motor hotel" and if you aren't used to radiating heaters and running the water a few extra minutes to find the warm water, this may not be for you.

But if you are here to ski or enjoy the outdoor beauty, this spot is ideal, the staff are friendly, and I think they take great care of the property.

I was surprised to read negative reviews of the food at the cafe, as I have eaten at the Sundance Cafe probably 20-30 times over the past 15 years and I find it consistently good.

The views of the mountains from the cafe are particularly impressive, as is the mural above the windows that identifies the names of the mountains you are looking at.

I also like the free-wifi in the cafe, and several times sat in there for hours as I caught up on correspondence, planned the rest of my trip, and frequently paused to gaze out at the Continental Divide.

I agree with the other review that it is good for a rustic adventure, but don't be mislead by the website. The restaurant was closed, the staff was not helpful but rather "out of it." The view from the lodge was beautiful but that is where the beauty ends. Do not expect luxury and bring your warmest PJ's if you visit in the winter!

This lodge of 12 units is in a picturesque mountain setting. You will not be disappointed with the views, nor with the proximity to Eldora Ski Resort. It's only about a 10 minute drive from lodge to skiing.
It is located outside of the town of Nederland, so if you visit in the winter, you might find yourself a bit isolated. There is nothing you can walk to from this lodge.
If you stay here, please keep in mind this isn't the Hilton, or even the Holiday Inn. It is pretty rustic. The flooring needs upgraging. If the carpet is ever replaced, it would be great to have a mat at the entry way of the rooms to wipe dirty boots. It was very muddy going from the car to the room due to melting snow. We found a mushroom growing out of a crack in the bathroom floor....interesting! The front door didn't seal very well to the frame, and was very drafty. There is no dead bolt on the inside.
We thought the beds (queen) were very comfortable, with lots of bedding available. One of the queen beds was located in a separate room, which would have been nicer if the room had a door, or even a curtain across the doorway.
We were disappointed with the food at the attached restaurant. We found both dinner and breakfast to be very bland, and were hoping for more since it was so convenient.
We had a difficult time with the television, and had to advance channels (hundreds of them) manually on the unit. Be sure to bring a few board games or something to occupy your time!
I would highly recommend the setting, but warn you to be prepared for a rustic experience! I think this would be a fabulous place in the summertime.
