“Nice trail”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We started at the visitor's center and it was a little hard to cross the highway since there was a long line of cars but with a little patience it's not bad. At first I was thinking we could’ve skipped the first portion on the way to Cascade Falls but it does offer nice views of Ouray. There are other spots overlooking the town so you could start at Cascade Falls and just cut through town at the end. Do this hike early before it gets too hot! Allow for at least 3 hours for the whole thing and plan your bathroom stops wisely.

“Great Hike, Great Views, Great Fun”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

My husband and I hiked the entire trail in about 5 hours, took frequent breaks to enjoy the view and of course take pictures. The changes in elevation as well as climate kept us pushing forward. The mountain tunnel at Box Canyon is a joy to find. The waterfalls are just beautiful. This has to be one of the best hikes. Most areas we enjoyed alone, but closer to trail heads we found many short distance hikers. Take a break at Baby Bath Tubs. The water was cold but very refreshing.

“Be prepared and you'll be fine”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We finally decided to do a portion of the Ouray Perimeter Trail yesterday. We parked by the Visitor's Center, crossed the street, and the trail starts by the Big Pink Rock. The first portion of the trip has a fairly steep incline; take your time and it starts to level off, although there are still many sections that go up and down. Beautiful views of the city from all different directions; and there are several marked areas where you can quit and just walk back into town. On the day we hiked, there was a good rain shower, and luckily we had our rain gear with us. We also had a good supply of water and had on good hiking boots that we'd walked in before. We found the trail fairly well marked, and each time there was a registration area we followed hiker safety protocol and wrote in our name, where we parked, etc. It's rated a a moderate trail, and I'd agree that in sections it's moderate, and some sections it's fairly hard. We took a cut-off to the ice caves, and it
was a hard steep descent, on mostly rocky and scree, and it was made even a little harder since it had rained and was slick. I'd recommend the hike to other people visiting the area, but I wouldn't suggest it for a first time hiker. Also, found it fairly well marked, just needed to pay attention to the signs.

“Not difficult and can be done by everyone”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

What's better than a hike the goes around the perimeter of a picturesque Victorian town and provides views in all directions of this little valley gem. The hike can be exited in may places if you feel the need to end the hike for a meal or treat in one of the many places to visit in town. Like all mountain trails, there are some tricky and narrow spots that require some care. Walking sticks are a great idea anywhere in the mountains. Go to the Ouray Visitor Center for a trail map and some great suggestions and directions.

“Take a Hike!”

This trail is a great hike! The beauty of it is you can pick it up, or drop off the trail at so many different locations around Ouray.
